Hello, Valgetova! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.

Also, please read welcome, business owners and don't tout. This edit to the Dartford article will have to be substantially edited, because when you read WV:Don't tout, you'll see that it deviates from site guidelines in several ways. In addition, if you are paid to do marketing for a hotel chain, you are permitted only to update factual information in existing listings and cannot create new listings or post descriptions in articles that aren't purely and objectively factual as descriptions of the hotel itself and services it provides. Please note that touting the location is also out of keeping with the don't tout guidelines.

Once you've read the links I've given you, if you have any questions, please ask them by typing a reply below (signing your post with 4 tildes [~] at the end).

All the best,

Touting

[edit]

You've been reverted again for touting. If you really won't read Wikivoyage:Don't tout and even attempt to follow any of the guidelines there, it may become necessary to block your posting privileges. Hotel listings are about the hotel, nothing else, and if you are a paid hotel marketer, you are not permitted to add new hotel listings at all. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:59, 9 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

In view of the number of touty listings you've been adding, your posting privileges have been blocked for a day. Please use the time to read Wikivoyage:Don't tout. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:01, 9 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
This is your second block. You really should have been blocked for 3 days last time. You are now being blocked for 2 weeks to try to get your attention. If you post here that you've read Wikivoyage:Don't tout and will emulate the "Good" and not the "Bad" example from now on, we can shorten your block. And please stop repeating the name of the hotel in the "alt" tab! That's for an alternate name, which most hotels don't have - so leave it blank! Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:33, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Third block now, for 3 months. The next one would be permanent. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:19, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you for letting me know about this and providing me with the link for Wikivoyage:Don't tout. I did read the full article and will do my best to follow the "Good" example from it. Thank you! —The preceding comment was added by Valgetova (talkcontribs)

Finally? Tell me how you would change this listing to be in keeping with the guidelines? I'll copy it here. Give an edited version below on this page, where your editing privileges have not been blocked:
  • 1 Madinah Hilton, King Fahd Rd, +966 14 820 1000, fax: +966 14 820 0557, . Check-in: 16:00, check-out: 12:00. Located just minutes away from the Holy Prophet’s Masjid al-Haram, this Madinah hotel offers Art Deco-style guest rooms and an array of amenities.

Thank you for your response. Please find my edited version below:

  • 2 Madinah Hilton, King Fahd Road, +966 14 820 1000, . Check-in: 16:00, check-out: 12:00. The hotel is located near Holy Prophet’s Masjid al-Haram. It has 357 rooms with free Wi-Fi. There is a cafe that works from 10:00AM to 11:45 PM and two restaurants on-site. SAR 500-700.

Please, do let me know if I can amend the above entry to make it in any way better for my future edits. Thank you!

  • By the way, another administrator reverted some of your edits (on your IP account) and gave an explanation. I'd advise that you review his reversions to see why he did them, though he is probably unaware of this discussion. Also @Ikan Kekek: you may be interested in those edits as well (such as this edit). As a recommendation to the IP account, only add a listing to one city article if it's for a place to stay. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:14, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Lose "The hotel is located near Holy Prophet’s Masjid al-Haram." That's considered location touting on this site, and being "near" the mosque is nothing unique or unusual about any hotel in Medina. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:17, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Read Wikivoyage:Listings and Wikivoyage:Don't tout again, and make sure you're clear on what the guidelines are. If you're confident you are, I'm willing to end this block and give you another chance. Please reply below. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:41, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Ikan Kekek. I read the Wikivoyage:Listings as well and can clearly see where my mistake is, everything is explained in the section "Avoid listing nearest attractions" so yes, my previous edit was also wrong. I will try to redo it below.

  • 3 Madinah Hilton, King Fahd Road, +966 14 820 1000, . Check-in: 16:00, check-out: 12:00. The hotel has 357 rooms with free Wi-Fi and a TV. There is a cafe that works from 10:00AM to 11:45 PM and two restaurants on-site. The parking is free of charge. SAR 500-700.

I also noticed my mistake with the address, the first time I put the whole address including the country which was unnecessary since the page evidently points this out. I do appreciate your help and time here and for providing me with the right articles to read! —The preceding comment was added by Valgetova (talkcontribs)

OK, you bet. Also, on talk pages like this one (but not on destination articles), please sign your posts by typing 4 tildes (~) in a row at the end of each post.
I will unblock your editing privileges now. Please go ahead and add the listing again, although keeping in mind that if you are a paid publicist for hotels or an entire hotel chain (rather than an owner or employee of a single hotel), you are not supposed to add any listings at all and should go through the procedure outlined at Wikivoyage:Don't tout#Marketers and SEOs.
