Slight refocus?
[edit]Maybe there should be a slight refocus to include all metro and tram systems as the transition seems to be a gradual one and the difference to the user is not all that huge? Maybe it should be called urban rail in the Netherlands? On a somewhat related note, is there something like S-Bahn or RER in the Netherlands? i.e. Mainland rail (ish) stuff that serves as urban rapid transit in urban areas? - The transition you propose would not mean a lot of addition to the article. From the top of my head I can only name Utrecht and Arnhem that have something close to an urban rail system. In Utrecht's case that is a tram network, in Arnhem's case a trolleybus network (busses with overhead power lines, i.e. electric trams with the tram substituted for a bus). What we have when it comes to an S-Bahn system is what is currently included in the article: Two metro systems and a single company that by far does not cover all of the region it has been named after. Rapid transit in the Randstad, perhaps the best case of an urban area in the Netherlands, consists of two Metros, RandstadRail, (busses) and the train network. The latter of which is rather dense in the Randstad, and I can report that plans are being made to convert some of it to Metro/Light Rail networks.
- If anything should be included, I'd be fine with adding general information and knowledge about the tram and possibly trolley networks, but at that point, why not change the scope of the article to cover all public transit of the Netherlands by also adding coverage for normal busses? After all, trams aren't much faster than busses to begin with.
