Deleted links[edit]

User:WhatamIdoing, I agree with what you added, but why did you delete these links? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:28, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not WhatamIdoing to answer this, but I think it's because those links are now mentioned in the new "How to contribute" section. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 01:47, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, they're now linked earlier in the page, so they seemed duplicative. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:26, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Fountain[edit]

Ikan Kekek or SHB2000, can you set up the Fountain system (instructions)? I believe that's the system for un-checking any edit that shouldn't earn any points. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:27, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm on vacation till the 17th. The instructions seem complicated. Is there a simple way to deal with this? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:57, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. Galahad might be able to help. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:54, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'll create the editaton and you'll just approve it. PD: Fountain is used to judge the articles, each user adds them and the judges evaluate them. This is an alternative to dashboard due to the number of criteria proposed. Best, Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 16:57, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek or @SHB2000 login into Fountain and approve it Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 21:35, 14 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Galahad! I'm not seeing an option to approve there, only "Create new." Otherwise, I see finished projects. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:19, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
You should follow the admin approval process, @Ikan Kekek. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 04:25, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Done, but with the results I posted above. How should I search for this project in Meta to approve it? Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:45, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
When you login, here you can approve. If not, I'll request to the developer directly. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 07:00, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I do have the power to approve that page. Could you please change the word "photographies" to "photographs"? That's the only erratum I'm seeing so far. Thanks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:10, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately I can't as I am not an enwikivoyage administrator. You can fix it on your own or omit that detail. :) Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 08:29, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I figured out how to edit it and did. I think I approved the editathon. Could you please check and see if it's approved? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:52, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Created! Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 02:45, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Galahad: apologies for not responding earlier. Was travelling and didn't have access to a computer. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 22:03, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mapshapes based on OpenStreetMap[edit]

How many points are rewarded for adding geolines and mapmasks based on OpenStreetMap relations? What if those relations didn't exist before the edit-a-thon? JsfasdF252 (talk) 18:01, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I don't think we planned to count those differently (a useful mapmask is a useful mapmask, right?), but they're valuable contributions, and I encourage you to contribute good content, even if it's not listed separately. WhatamIdoing (talk) 06:44, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Adjusting the edit-a-thon page[edit]

Since we are using Fountain, should be changed the link? See an example from Spanish Wikivoyage. I also think we should put a sitenotice on the edit-a-thon while they still approve our request, don't you think? Best, Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 07:51, 17 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Is the other link just redundant? WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:01, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Isn't. The two below are from Fountain. It is to evaluate the articles, although we can add them on our own without any problem. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 17:04, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Participants and grading[edit]

Right now, only one person appears to be signed up at Fountain, and two grades have been given already. How do we get more participants, and should we be grading in real time, rather than waiting till the end of the edit-a-thon? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:12, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Also, it's not clear to me how to use https://fountain.toolforge.org/editathons/envoy-10. When I press "Judge," an article that was started in 2005 pops up. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:13, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
There are more editors than that – see https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikimedia_Small_Projects/Wikivoyage_10/students/overview. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:20, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. How are people signing up? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:55, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think using the "sign up" button on this page? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 11:43, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't think we'll see many people signing up unless the CentralNotice banners are running. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:40, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
About fountain: that's the creation date. Below are the points selector. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 21:07, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
What happened to the CentralNotice banners, though? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 22:37, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Without response. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 10:14, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Galahad, I tried to use Fountain today, and it doesn't let me "Save" anything. Steps to reproduce:
The lower corner changes from "Total:" to "Total: 3", but the "Save" button stays grayed out. All of the options available to me end with a warning that "Your changes will be discarded." WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:10, 15 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't have access to debug it (I'm not judge) but I emailed Le Loy for that. One of the options is to select points, maybe that's where the detail comes from (the buttons with + and -). You can set 0 to those so that it counts well and allows you to save. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 21:04, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
That seems to solve the problem. It wants me to add lots of points in the +/- boxes. Then the "Save" button turns green, and then I can take away all of the fake points and Save my rating.
I wish that Fountain showed me what the editor did, instead of the final article. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:36, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
The edit-a-thon has ended, and no more submissions can be made, at least by the non-judges. Is it possible for judges to manually add articles to others' submissions? JsfasdF252 (talk) 21:17, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
WhatamIdoing, I'm way behind in grading lab reports for the two sections I'm teaching this semester, so I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to participate in grading editathon contributions, but I think the solution to the problem of seeing the current state of the article and not how it looked at the end of the editathon is to use the article history to look at how it appeared by x-time. I assume there's an official hour as well as an official day when it ended? Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:29, 22 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@JsfasdF252, we're all new to Fountain, so I don't know if it can be done. But if you give me the name of an article, I'd be happy to try it. WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:40, 22 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
The articles that I forgot to submit are Jim Thorpe, Lighthouses in New Jersey, and Punxsutawney. JsfasdF252 (talk) 03:49, 22 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
New articles can only be added if a future date is set and then returned to the previous date. Once the editathon ends, neither judges nor participants can add more. Modification to the editaton can only be done by an enwikivoyage administrator. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 03:54, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's only three articles. I can probably calculate the score by hand. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:30, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

[undent] I have a little time tonight, so I went into fountain, and the first article that popped up was Seaside Heights. The edit that was done during the editathon period is to add this listing with coordinates]. That's a good edit, but it doesn't look like we had decided in advance how many points we would aware for adding one listing. 1? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:20, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

What about these changes for Asbury Park? One listing with coordinates was added, more information about parking and information about Circuit shuttle cars, and the listings of events were moved to the right section. None of that really fits the criteria we created for the contest. 1 point? I'll stop here and wait to see what you two think. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:26, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Regarding that edit, the only criteria it fulfills is the addition of geocoordinates which earns 2 points, but I'm cherry-picking the fine-grained details here. I think that's reasonable given the 2 points cover more than just adding the geocoordinates. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:11, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I thought the 2 points would be for adding geocoordinates to an entire article, not a single listing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:22, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek @SHB2000
@WhatamIdoing any problem with the grading? We are waiting for you to give the participation certificates. Best, Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 07:27, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
WhatamIdoing, do you have an opinion about my question? You would presumably be the tiebreaker. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:38, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Galahad, apologies for forgetting to do so. I've had a lot of busy events IRL over the last three weeks and haven't really had much time to edit Wikimedia; I'll try and finish the rest later by Mar 30. Thanks for reminding me about this! --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:40, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Galahad: I've just finished grading. How will the participation certificates be awarded, though? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 03:18, 6 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek, WhatamIdoing, Galahad: pending the lack of further response, I quickly drafted the certificates and have given them out (congratulations again, JsfasdF252!). While this edit-a-thon did not go entirely as planned with real life getting in the way, it was a learning experience for me, given that I've never judged articles or run an edit-a-thon before. I thank all three of you for making this happen, and I hope our future edit-a-thons are more successful (maybe if DerHexer had just accepted our CentralNotice request!). --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:48, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000: Thank you for the kind words and an apology for the delay in responding; posting it on the contest page would be ideal. Once that is done, we will add on our certificates page the acknowledgement that the users did indeed complete this global contest. I hope Wikivoyage 11 will be much, much better (and it will be!). Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 12:41, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
At least on the positive side regarding CentralNotice, there are two new CentralNotice admins to help handle the load. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:49, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

"Outline article that has enough information to be used"[edit]

What does this mean? I assume that for city articles, it fulfills all the criteria of usable articles except that "eat" and "sleep" is not necessary, because those sections are unnecessary for day-trippers who bring their own food. Is this a correct interpretation? JsfasdF252 (talk) 22:23, 16 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

@JsfasdF252, this is about the article rating/status: {{outline}} vs {{usable}}. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:31, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
