Understand

Suffern is close to the western limits of Rockland County, near the borders of New Jersey and Orange County, approximately 45 miles and 45 minutes to an hour by car from New York City. Though officially a village, it is effectively a small town with some charming and some typical suburban buildings downtown.

By car

[edit]

Suffern can be accessed via the New York State Thruway, which connects the village with Westchester County and New York City to the east and south and to Upstate New York (Albany, et al.), or US Highway 202, which connects the village with New Jersey to the south and Peekskill, Brewster and the state of Connecticut (Danbury, etc.) to the north and east. I-287 also connects the village with several points south in New Jersey, including Parsippany, Morristown and Edison.

By train

[edit]

Suffern is the first stop in New York State on the Port Jervis Line and last stop on the Bergen County and Main Lines of NJ Transit. Travel time from New York City's Penn Station to Suffern is approximately 1.25-1.5 hours, and the regular off-peak fare for adults is $13.75 one way ($6.25 for children, seniors, and people with disabilities).
