See
Some parts of southern Vermont are particularly popular for seeing the fall foliage. This has become so popular, and the effects of the daytrippers have become so burdensome, that many communities are struggling to cope. In 2023, the village of Pomfret (near Woodstock in Windsor County) closed Cloudland Road and Barber Hill Road to non-residents during peak color season, citing not only traffic jams so severe that they were interfering with emergency services, but also problems caused by anti-social behavior, including piles of garbage, public urination on both private and public property, and people changing clothes by the roadside in an effort to get the perfect photo for social media. If you go, plan plenty of time to crawl through the traffic jams and make sure you are a considerate guest.
