Some merging?[edit]

We have many Australian road itineraries, many of them still at outline status. Itineraries that completely overlap with Highway 1 could perhaps be merged into this article? ϒpsilon (talk) 12:00, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What counts as an omission?[edit]

The second sentence of Highway 1 (Australia)#Understand says:

two major omissions being Canberra and Uluru

But what counts as an omission though? There are plenty of famous, well-known tourist spots that aren't along Highway 1 or within and hour's drive from the highway. Just to name a few, Kosciuszko National Park / Mount Kosciuszko, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Southwest National Park, Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, the Daintree Rainforest (this one is just over an hour from Cairns at its closest point via Route 44) or the Barossa Valley and all but the Flinders Ranges receive more visitor numbers than Uluru (not sure about Canberra though). @Ypsilon:, given you added this, what did you mean by "major"? Did you mean places that are generally well-known internationally, or places that are popular tourist spots? --11:17, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't like the structure to the left (a sound or snow barrier?) taking up so much space in the proposed. And the current is somewhat hazy, but isn't this highway about lonely drives for the majority of it? If so, I think the current is better at capturing that sense. I also liked that it captured a scene through Australia-specific vegetation (those barks couldn't be those of anything but eucalyptuses, right?), and the proposed doesn't really scream "Australia" in that regard. I see, and I didn't factor that into consideration. I don't think anyone would be able to tell that [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10] (around where the banner was taken), [11], [12], and [13] are all on the same route solely by image. Australia is a pretty big country (a continent unto itself to be fair) and this road runs around almost the full circumference of it. I was already pretty sure this highway has its well-trodden, populated, motorway-like sections as well as rural, lonely ones. It's often a tough job to come up with a banner that captures all of the vibe of long routes like this in a single shot. Vidimian (talk) 09:58, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I've travelled on every single kilometre of Highway 1 in my home state and it does range from a 16-lane freeway to a two-lane highway with four- to six-lane freeways (including the proposed banner) and highways in between. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 11:20, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
