Are you sure Columbus landed at Trujillo? I was always taught that he never reached the American mainland only Carribean islands
Regions
[edit]We currently have two regions for Honduras - Pacific and Caribbean - and these deal with the narrow coastal plains on either side of the country. We need to deal though with the mountainous interior. I suspect the central belt may split quite nicely, east and west, giving us four travel regions for the country. Please anyone who knows the country post your thoughts here. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:16, 24 April 2010 (EDT)
- Aside from food, soccer wars, and neighbors, I don't know much about the country. But that sounds about right. We might be able to get away with just one Interior Honduras article, since the Caribbean section of the country is actually a good chunk of its territory (Pacific Honduras is tiny—just the Choluteca and Valle departmentsbut important), but perhaps a split now will preempt one further down the road. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 15:58, 24 April 2010 (EDT)
- As one region, the interior looks huge. I have split it along the obvious department boundaries. All of the main non coastal attractions are in the western interior, but as you say, a split now should preempt any later need. The southern boundary of the Caribbean region is somewhat arbitrary but all others follow department lines. Any ideas for names of the two interior regions? And further comments of course gratefully received. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 23:51, 24 April 2010 (EDT)
- I would put all of the eastern province (Gracias a Dios) in the Caribbean region. The thing about the interior is that there isn't much of anything in what would be the eastern interior region—I think Juticalpa and Catacamas are pretty much the only towns with more than 30,000 residents? But I'm not necessarily objecting to the split, just laying out the rationale.
- If following an interior split, the division is between the higher mountains to the west and the lower mountains to the east—I'd go with simply East Honduran Mountains and West Honduran Mountains. If not, Honduran Highlands would work well. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 10:57, 25 April 2010 (EDT)
- Upon reflection, I reckon one highlands region is right, especially after incorporating all of Gracias a Dios into the Caribbean region. Have done so and will put the regionalisation into place. Thanks for your invaluable input Peter.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:45, 25 April 2010 (EDT)
Currency, time and spelling conventions
[edit]Below is a proposed infobox to let readers know which formatting conventions to use in Wikivoyage articles. Do you agree with these proposals? If you have direct knowledge of what is most commonly used in the country, please let us know. Ground Zero (talk) 12:38, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
- Moved to the top of this page. Ground Zero (talk) 04:27, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
- I might suggest adding something like, "Please use local currency (lempira) for all prices. Equivalent dollars or euros can be shown along with the price in lempira if desired, but refrain from including only a dollar or euro price." You might be able to reword more succinctly. Thoughts? - Do we need special instructions for Honduras, or is the general advice provided at wv:$ applicable here? Ground Zero (talk) 12:44, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- It's worth noting that I've seen many of our Central American articles exclusively use foreign currency (almost always USD), which adds to a bit of inconsistency. Alternatively, we could create a template for {{HNL}} along the lines of {{DKK}}, per se. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:50, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, gents. The updated infobox looks good. Mrkstvns (talk) 19:36, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
