Albrecht von Urach
[edit]@DaGizza: when did Albrecht von Urach write that passage? I think this is very relevant, especially as he refers to an 80-year period. Which 80 years? Thanks. Ground Zero (talk) 09:47, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Ground Zero: I've added the date and book. Gizza (roam) 07:10, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
Rename?
[edit]Should we just rename this to Empire of Japan? That was the official name of Japan from the Meiji Restoration in 1868 until its defeat in World War II, and pretty much covers the period when Japan was a colonial empire. The dog2 (talk) 15:51, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- The article says "... Japan successfully building a colonial empire based on Western models, which is what this article will focus on." So if this article does not tell about the empire as such, but the colonial aspects of it, then why rename? Or are we going to shift the focus? –LPfi (talk) 09:01, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Because "Empire of Japan" (大日本帝国. Dai Nippon Teikoku) was the official proper name of Japan during the time it was a colonial empire. The U.S. forced Japan to drop "Empire of" from its official name after the Japanese lost World War II, so since then, it has just officially been known as "Japan". If you say "Empire of Japan", it is understood that you are referring to Japan during its time as a colonial empire. Not pre-Meiji Japan or post World War II Japan.
