Merger

[edit]

Why should this be merged? Ground Zero (talk) 12:34, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I assume because there are two articles for the same place. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:44, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Good point. I should have read the merge box. Support. Ground Zero (talk) 12:56, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
There is also copyright violation present in this version (see my message to Ikan about that). What do we do? --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 13:07, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for pointing that out. Probably, copyvio content should be removed, along with revision deletions if deemed necessary, and then the remaining legal content be merged. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:26, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Re-edited it or delete it. Ground Zero (talk) 13:27, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ikan Kekek advised deletion as well. I asked him because he has always seemed knowledgable about such matters. Trouble with SelfieCity's solution ("copyvio content should be removed...and then the remaining legal content be merged"), thorough though it is, I don't know which bits are copyvio and which aren't. I saw the sentence "Kanive is a small village 9 km north of Kushalanagar..." and thought "that sounds like a Wikipedia intro", and low and behold it was. Then I copied and pasted three more random sentences from the article into Google, and two out of three were word-to-word copies from various websites. It might be an idea just to delete the whole thing, unless the original page creator, User:Madhuguddana, would like to come forward and tell us what (s)he wrote him/herself, and what (s)he copied. --ThunderingTyphoons! I agree based on that information. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:14, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have left a message for User:Madhuguddana.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 20:27, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Delete the sections you know to be copyvio. Deleting stuff on speculation that it might be copyvio is a dangerous precedent, and I don't believe it is supported by policy anywhere. I added two "Sleep" places. If you delete those because it's just easier to delete everything, you're on the wrong track. Let's build the article that this is being merged into. Ground Zero (talk) 20:31, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Another option is that we ask the user to write a paragraph or two of text about something, anywhere, so we can compare this user's writing style to potential copyright violation and get an idea what's original text and what's copied from somewhere else. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:00, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have moved these two listings from the main page so they are not deleted. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:01, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
