To Guide and FTT

I think this one isn't far from guide status. Coordinates and a dynamic map are things I can come to think of, anything else? Right now we have Ftt's up until February, and as w:Anzac day is observed on April 25, I think this article would fit perfectly in the March or April slot. --ϒpsilon (talk) 09:52, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

The article needs further work to be more complete, and I'm afraid that I don't know how to develop those maps. But I agree that it could be brought to front page-worthy status. Nick-D (talk) 09:30, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Adding coordinates to listings doesn't take long using Google maps and http://maps.wikivoyage-ev.org/w/geomap.php and when a listing has them, it will automatically appear on the map in the article. I noticed Inas has been active here a few days ago. Would he like to comment on this one; are there still many important sites that are missing, does the Understand section need more content, or could we already upgrade the article's status to guide and nominate it for Featured travel topic? I like the way the page is developing, and I think it would be very worthwhile to feature it to get the additional content. As what is there already appears well written and consistent. Perhaps some more images? --Inas (talk) 10:44, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

The list should include all of the most significant military-related sites in Australia, but as there's a lot of second tier sites (fortifications, regional museums, etc) it could be expanded further. Nick-D (talk) 10:55, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

I just added a section about ANZAC day. The information is entirely from Wikipedia, so you can blame them if something is wrong. Anyway, I think I'll upgrade it to guide and nominate it for FTT now, there is more than half a year before it goes on the Main Page so there's plenty of time for additional work. Including Australian military sites in Papua New Guinea?

Would it be a good idea to include those? The Lae cemetery is a pretty important Australian site. And then there's also the Kokoda Track too, which is also a pretty significant Australian site. And so was the w:Port Moresby Airfield Complex. If that's the case, then should the page be named as Military museums and sites in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Nauru or Military museums and sites in Australia and former territories? How about just "Australian military sites"? I don't think we want overly long names. Just explain the scope in the lede and/or "Understand" and have different sections for different countries. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:07, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
