Comments[edit]

I am intending to take a caravan from the UK to Egypt down to Malawi with a family of four. Is there anyone who has ever done this? I will be taking only the major routes and roads, can this be done? which ports can I use for the ferries, which borders are currently closed closed.

thanks —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) 84.9.196.236 (talkcontribs)

Unless something has changed recently the most common problem I know of is getting into Sudan from Egypt. The border is often closed, and it's pretty remote and transportation-less. Also the Sudanese visa can be difficult to obtain... probably easier getting it in the UK. What route are you planning to take south of Sudan? You can't cross at this time straight into Uganda, and it's pretty dangerous in that part of Uganda anyhow. Northern Kenya doesn't have the best reputation either, but there's definitely a small stream of travelers taking that route. Planning to go through Ethiopia? I don't know much about that, but there may be more info in the various country articles about border crossings. From Kenya it should be smooth sailing... you could head straight down into Tanzania (Zanzibar makes a nice sidetrip) and across to Malawi... or swing around Lake Victoria through Uganda and Rwanda to get to Tanzania, if you're up for more of an adventure... Western Tanzania is pretty off the beaten path and more than a little roadless. But makes for an interesting journey. If you're looking to do a safari at some point, you'll have opportunities in Kenya and Tanzania... but another interesting option is to do one launching from Malawi... Kiboko Camp (and maybe some others) run roundtrip safaris from Lilongwe to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, which is lovely and less crowded than it's more famous counterparts. If you can give more specifics on the route you would like to take then maybe I can give you more info, especially from Kenya south, as that's the trip I just did. – (WT-en) cacahuate talk 02:50, 21 April 2007 (EDT)

Other destinations[edit]

I do not think these blobs of Spanish rock should be listed as ODs so I have taken them out.

I will knock together a list of ODs for the region. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:54, 18 March 2010 (EDT)

Page banner[edit]

Current banner.
Suggestion 1 - Casablanca.
Suggestion 2 - Saharan Morocco.

Here are some new page banner suggestions. /Yvwv (talk) 21:38, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think they're both really good banners. I would use suggestion 2 here, and maybe suggestion 1 could be used for Casablanca. —Granger (talk · contribs) 02:31, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I support Suggestion 1, as Suggestion 2 has lens flares. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:27, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New map formatting[edit]

Is this formatting useful? It seems to me it makes the page a little harder to edit, and I can't see any obvious benefit. Pinging User:Omda4wady. —Granger (talk · contribs) 03:29, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
