--Lihing--

Shouldn't Lihing, Sabah's rice wine be mentioned here?

I'm sorry no-one ever replied. Sure, it would be good to mention any speciality. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:26, 16 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Philippine claim?

[edit]

Duterte to pursue Sabah claim. Does this merit mention here? Pashley (talk) 17:10, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Probably, but he'll never be able to enforce it, so it's really more about the odious, murderous extremism coming out of the Philippines than anything else. Of course, we can't call it that in any travel article, but that guy is at least as bad as Trump being elected President in the U.S., which isn't going to happen. He's murdered many people in his so-called "drug war" since his election, and many others in his previous role as Mayor of Davao. I guess I'd have to say I don't know enough to be sure he wouldn't be unhinged enough to attack Malaysia, so yeah, it should probably be mentioned. Categorisation of Labuan

[edit]

I've never been to Borneo, so I don't really have much knowledge of this area, but I thought Labuan was a federal territory and distinct from Sabah. I can understand if it does have to be categorised under here though, but I couldn't find previous discussions of this. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:07, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

It is a federal territory, but I think a decision was made not to treat it like a separate state, but as I see Putrajaya is treated like one, perhaps this should be revisited. Labuan actually looks longer than Putrajaya. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:50, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Comparing it to other examples outside Malaysia, we categorise Canberra under Australia, even though it's entirely surrounded by New South Wales, or Washington, D.C. under Mid-Atlantic, not under Maryland even though it's mostly surrounded by Maryland. I'm a bit opinionless now on where Labuan should be breadcrumbed under; it is not a part of Sabah and you can get to Labuan without coming through Sabah, but it's a bit too small to be a region of its own. I don't think it's too small to be treated analogously to Putrajaya - keep it as a city article but link it to Malaysia (or if we prefer, create different categories for East Malaysia and West Malaysia and point everything accordingly). Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:01, 15 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
So how about it? Should we link Labuan to Malaysia? Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:25, 16 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'd support linking Labuan to Malaysia. But before we do that, someone needs to edit the static map. Alternatively, if we don't have any active editors who can do that, then I'd say the box for Sabah should rather say "Sabah and Labuan" instead, somewhat like how the New South Wales box is formatted in Australia. Good points. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:50, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
