Page banner
[edit]The page banner isn't excellent, IMO, so I've added an alternative:

Alternative - thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 02:17, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- The alternative is a better picture, but what has this view of Colonsay got to do with St Kilda? I created the present banner long before the crop tool was available, and I just used a long distance view that I had. I will try to create a new banner in the next few days. - The original file was categorized under St. Kilda; obviously a mistake was made somewhere. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:56, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- Now I look more closely, the original was categorized both under "Dun, St Kilda" and "Colonsay." Obviously, a mistake was made in the category. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:57, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
@SelfieCity: I would definitely have to say Alternative, the current banner is too "Animated". Arep Ticous16:29, 25 June 2019 (UTC)- The problem is, as AlasdairW mentions above, that the alternative is not actually a picture of St Kilda. Therefore, we must go with the current banner for now. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:30, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

- Alternative 2 is nice. Thanks. Ground Zero (talk) 16:47, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- Both Alt 1 and Alt 2 are mesmerizing to the eye, better than theCurrent one of course, Even so, i will have to go with Alt 2 because its a less complicated and an original picture which belongs to the location. Therefore, i draw my vote to Alt 2and take back my comment on ALT 1. Lots of smile... Arep Ticous 14:08, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks to those who voted. @AlasdairW: Could you confirm that Alternative #2 was taken at St Kilda? Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:54, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay in getting back to this, I have been busy with other things. Alternative #2 is a photo of the right place. However I think a different crop of this photo captures a more iconic image - I created Alternative #3, showing Dun - a view everybody sees from the boat waiting to land. I also created Alternative #4 showing the view from the highest point, Conachair with two birds - seabirds are a major reason for visiting the islands. My first choice is #3. AlasdairW (talk) 22:04, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- I also prefer #3 to the others. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:48, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- #4 for me... not sure how good it represents the area, but it's for sure the most visually pleasing... -- andree.sk(talk) 05:53, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- With the new choices available (thanks AlasdairW), my preference would be #4, then #3, then #2. Ground Zero (talk) 15:19, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- Definitely alternative four... :-) Arep Ticous 17:01, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- I don't know the area, but I like #4 best. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:04, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
- I have changed the banner to #4, but am happy to change it again if opinions change. Unfortunately the bird standing on the trig point gets lost behind the text. AlasdairW (talk) 15:10, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
- Actually, on my screen, the bird is not covered, for the most part. Thanks for your work! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:21, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
