St Levan's stone.
[edit]There is a quotation about the stone, which can be seen in Wikisource:Page:The Folk-Lore Journal Volume 5 1887.djvu/112, which gives a little more on this quote. AlasdairW (talk) 11:28, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Move to Porthcurno?
[edit]@Zeniris: Thanks for your email explainer, but it's always better to discuss changes to the travel guide on-wiki, so other people in the community have an opportunity to take part if they want to. I am more than happy to consider moving this page to Porthcurno, and invite you to make a proposal for doing so here. ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 22:31, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- @ThunderingTyphoons!: hi and apologies for not using this sooner, I am new to the social aspect of using Wiki projects. So to explain once again so all can see here: not wanting to undo what had already been put into place completely, as this page describes not just the village itself but rather attractions with the identically named greater parish, I changed the summary to refer to the parish instead. The issue here is that as has been pointed out this means linking Porthcurno on the map shown in Cornwall (it should definitely be there as it is a major village!) to this article on which does not follow conventions. Therefore I support the proposal to rename this page Porthcurno, however it would be better still really if somehow we could still make it inclusive in title of the surrounding villages of St. Levan and Treen. - @Zeniris: Pardon me for interrupting this discussion, but is this perhaps a rural area? We have a rural area article type if you think it would be better suited for this article. Changing to the rural area article type would change the wording "city" at the bottom of the article to "rural area." --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:01, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- @SelfieCity: Certainly not interrupting, this is the kind of suggestion that is needed. I guess in this case the Church Parish of St. Levan could also be considered a rural area? The only issue is that still does not satisfy @ThunderingTyphoons!:' original comment that Porthcurno should connect to a page of the same name. It depends if this is a hard set requirement. I am very adamant that Porthcurno should be on the map, it is definitely one of the more known villages. Zeniris (talk) 08:31, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- If a rural area article comprising all the villages and hamlets of the parish is a solution, then that works for me. Porthcurno can still be on the map, just not as a separate listing and not bluelinked as though it were also an article - see the example of Whittington (part of the Oswestry listing) on Shropshire for how it could appear.--ThunderingTyphoons! - @ThunderingTyphoons!: Ok so the simplest solution would be to leave the article as St Levan, how about putting St Levan in the description for the listing, e.g. "Porthcurno (<cornish>): main village in the parish of St Levan." or something similar? Zeniris (talk) 19:09, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- If the article is called St Levan, then that should be first: "St Levan (Cornish: Selevan), including the village of Porthcurno". Or, we change this article to Porthcurno, then it gets listed first. I'm easy either way, but readers should know what article they're going to get before they click.--ThunderingTyphoons! - St Levan is indeed the name of a village and parish of which Porthcurno is in it would seem logical to keep the page titled as is. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:58, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
