Talk:Vistonida
Add topic@Traveler100: Hello, don't you find it appropriate and polite before making massive changes to put this for discussion here? We are a community and not a dictatorship, right? I am sure you have never been in the area that you think you can judge. I live here and think better to know what belongs here where. I see from previous discussions between us that for reasons unknown to me you have a dislike for articles that I write and boycott again and again. I think that's a shame in a community trying to build something good. DocWoKav Sept, 15th 2019
- I wrote a merge tag on the article page. The only issue I have with some of the article created is that they are of Points of Interest not exiting towns what would meet Wikivoyage:What is an article?. In this case it is already a listing in other city article. Making a change to an article is hardly dictatorship, claiming a page as your own any allowing no-one else to edit is however against the spirit of wiki. As you know and have already done, you can always undo people edits. --Traveler100 (talk) 07:55, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- Just jumping in here, but in Wikivoyage individual attractions should in general be listed in the nearest city article. The exception would be if the site is remote, or big and complex. See Wikivoyage:What is an article?. --Ypsilon (talk) 08:19, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- As you all know In Greece there are many archaeological sites that deserve and have their own site (for example, Delphi, Meteora, Philippi) and not as an attachment in the nearest often unknown city. In southern Greece these sites are better known than in northern Greece. Along the Via Egnatia there are some ancient sites that are of importance to this route and the development of the region. In this respect, it is worthwhile in my opinion that these sites get extra pages. If I'm wrong, then it's nice to explain this in the discussion here and not just to change. DocWoKav Sept, 15th 2019
- Wikivoyage:Plunge_forward encourages readers to "Go ahead. You have as much right to add, change and improve anything you see on Wikivoyage as anyone else has. You don't need to ask anyone or even to have an account, if you can fix or improve anything. If you make a change, other people here will often help. So don't bother asking whether it's all right to plunge in – it probably is!"
- But now that an objection has been raised, it is good to see that it is being worked out on the talk page. That is how things should work here. Ground Zero (talk) 08:47, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- As one of the most notable ancient cultures in world history, Greece probably has thousands of archaeological sites of varying importance, size etc. Many of them merit an article themselves, but the ones that there's less to write about/are less notable ought to be listed in the nearest city or perhaps "city" article comprising a rural area if there are many such minor sites close to each other, with their names as redirect to the article where they're listed. - The problem in ancient cultural countries like Egypt, Greece is that the names of the ancient sites are known, but not the names of today's places that are in the neighborhood. In this respect, one has to make (in my opinion) exceptions to the rule to places the important archaeological sites under the nearest town. Thus, the site of the ancient Amphipolis (created by Traveler100) also deserves its own site, as it was an important station on the Via Egnatia, where many of the well-known Roman emperors took their rest and Apostle Paul preached and brought Christianity to Europe. Other candidates would be the ancient Pella, Mosynopolis, Mesimvria, Traianoupolis. They were all very important sites along the Via Egnatia, which was once of world political importance before and even after the separation of the Roman Empire. We have so many blank pages of meaningless places here in Wikivoyage, that a few pages of content about archaeological sites do not really matter, or?. Basically, that's why people go to Greece for sea and culture. DocWoKav Sept, 15th 2019
- I have no opinion about the specifics under discussion in this thread, but as a general point, redirects deal very effectively with search terms for ancient ruins that are currently in or near a modern community that includes them in its article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:49, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Questions
[edit]- Should Nestos river delta article be expanded to include the whole of the national park? In which case many of the POIs could be moved there.
- Should an article be created for Iasmos where some of the eat POIs are and a number of the sites are close to?
- Could some of the sites and information be added to Xanthi?
- Is there a good name for the area around w:Lake Vistonida?
--Traveler100 (talk) 10:02, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- I have created Anastasiopolis as an extension of the Via Egnatia side, to avoid making it too long. Anastasiopolis was one of the most important stations along the route. Isamos is a completely meaningless peasant community. All the sights in the area refer to Via Egnatia. Even Xanthi did not even exist at the time. If most Authors consider the Anastasioplis site to be superfluous, then please move content to Via Egnatia. Nestos: Lake Vistonia is a shallow, muddy lake where only birds and ornithologists get lost. On the Nestos River itself you find in the summer bustle of tourists. An extension with Lake Vistonia is meaningless from a tourist point of view.
- It seems to me that articles about culture are not welcome. Then it is probably better I concentrate in the future rather on beach bars, beaches and chic hotels for the English Wikivoyage pages ..... Do you really find all culture so uninteresting? In that case I apologize for having written these pages. Feel free to delete them. DocWoKav Sept, 15th 2019
- Please do not read too much into edits to anything you create. It was intended good faith to match the general style of this site. Of course culture articles are more than welcome. Do not take things personally with wiki sites. Intention of others are not always clear via a text edit. Lets just find an acceptable solution here. Some listed above, but the idea of extended articles to Via Egnatia sound like a good idea too. --Traveler100 (talk) 10:58, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
This article covers well sites and POIs around the lake of Vistonida (on of which is Anastasiopolis), I suggest that this article is rename either as Vistonida (as in the former municipality) or as Abdera-Iasmos as it covers roughly those municipalities. --Traveler100 (talk) 19:16, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
