Template talk:Phone
In listing
[edit]@Traveler100: If we're going to have this template, we may as well also use it to render the phone number in {{listing}} and {{eventlisting}}. No sense in having the same code in more than one place. What do you think? ARR8 (talk | contribs) 05:44, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- @ARR8: I was wondering the same thing. What I have not work out is how the syntax check highlighting works. It shows up in the listing template but not this one? --Traveler100 (talk) 05:53, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Traveler100: It seems that it does, but only in mainspace. The error is generated correctly using the template here. ARR8 (talk | contribs) 06:01, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
Format and usage documentation
[edit]It is often useful to provide more than one number, such as for office and off hours, or comment on the calling fee. The template allows including more than one number separated by commas, and including comments in parenthesis. The practice and format are however not well documented, it seems. Wikivoyage:Phone numbers contains well hidden comments on domestic-only and high-cost numbers, otherwise I find nothing on the more complicated matters.
The format requirements are not easy to guess. Now I got caught by commas not being allowed in the parenthesis, earlier I have encountered other oddities. Could a section on the use and syntax of the phone field be added, e.g. to above mentioned Phone numbers?
