One word on redistricting a city on this site: You shouldn't do that unilaterally. Instead, the correct procedure would be to make a proposal at Talk:Kolkata, explaining your reasons, having a discussion and waiting for a consensus in favor of your proposal, then not acting until or unless you obtain one. You also need to specify what the new borders between districts would be, because a new map would need to be made. Now, I suggest you stop your work associated with your unilateral redistricting and start a thread, explaining your proposal. Your work will probably need to be reverted for now.
Thanks and all the best,
Correction regarding Kolkata
[edit]
Dear Ikan, I have informed the Kolkata talk page regarding my changes. I have also requested Ypsilon from Finland to create a new Kolkata District map.
You can be rest assured that whatever changes I am doing is based on concrete information, and thus I am doing my changes. If the Kolkata experts think that my changes are wrong, they can change it or revert it anytime, but I will hope they will give me proper reasons for not accepting my changes. I am a Bengali native of Kolkata and consider myself an expert on Kolkata city, thus it will be an interesting conversation.
Stay safe.

- Indeed, I do assume you are trustworthy and know what you're doing, but there should still be a discussion. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:13, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi Anirban,
I hope the covid situation gets better for you in India. After seeing this, it is scary, considering I've only been caught up in lockdown once for 2 weeks for 50 cases a day. Can't believe with 145k a day.
Hope you get better and take care, SHB2000 (talk) 08:40, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
@SHB2000 Yes, its very scary situation in India. Thanks for your great interest in India. Night curfews have started in various places of India, and there is a chance we might head towards total lockdown in future. Lockdown is a great economic harmer, creating life-threatening situations for the poor people of our country. Most problematic situation is in my state, West Bengal, which is going through State Elections, which will end on 2nd May, with results being declared. We have no lockdown, no night curfews, only political activities (meetings, rallies) with Corona protocols being flouted, and there is a vaccine shortage in here as well. Praying to God situation improves here. Anirban Kolkata Anirban Kolkata (talk) 10:18, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- I've been more particularly interested in the former British India and South-East Asia because one, I was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka with Portuguese/Dutch (I don't know which one exactly) ancestry and came to Australia when I was two years old. And secondly, it was the third last country I visited before Covid struck and I haven't even been able to travel to my home state (I'm in a different state for work and educational purposes) because of politics and Queensland Health not being trusted as a reliable government. (They said a man hosted a party with 25 people while self-isolating but they were his room-mates as they all live in a large shared house). To me, politics destroys everything. Also don't know why India chooses to export vaccines. (Similarly I don't know why we also are diverting our vaccines to Papua New Guinea, although to say, their covid situation is worse than ours) and I hope everything gets better in Kolkata. SHB2000 (talk) 11:17, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
@ SHB2000 Don't worry about your ancestry Sir. You are a great global citizen. West Bengal too has Portuguese and Dutch connections. This is the land of Henry Louis Vivian Derozio (son of Francis Derozio,a Christian Indo-Portuguese office worker). He was a great social reformer, revolutionary and educator. He was born in 1809 in Entally, Central Calcutta which is also my birthplace. Unfortunately due to his excessive revolutionary activities, he was tortured a lot by the orthodox Calcutta society of that time and he died at the young age of 22. We also had Dutch settlements in my state in Chinsura. As you are interested in British India, I am giving you a very special info. A great historic movement has started in India, called the Indian Reunification Association. It aims to unite India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, and create an United India. The movement was officially founded in 2017. Please check out their website. Patron of the movement is Hon. Mr. Markandey Katju, ex-Judge of Hon. Supreme Court of India. - About my ancestry, it's mainly because of my blood type, but regardless, I generally don't bother. Interesting organisation though, and I hope that'll happen, (with Nepal as well). SHB2000 (talk) 12:36, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Grey thing blocking wikitext
[edit]Hi there, since you wanted to know what's the grey thing blocking your wikitext. So simply don't leave a space on the first character.
So not leaving a space will turn out like this
And leaving a space will turn out like this
Hope that helps!
Thanks and take care, SHB2000 (talk) 22:07, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
@SHB2000:Quite fascinated to see that you are answering for Mr Typhoons!. Actually the words he used was "Grey Blob" and not Grey Block. Grey Blob is an offensive term , isn't it ? You can see what he has written in his edit page. Anirban Kolkata Anirban Kolkata (talk) 16:30, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Please behave in a correct Wikivoyage way and do not start lines of text with spaces. --FredTC (talk) 16:55, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Assume good-faith. SHB2000 (talk) 11:50, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
@FredTC:Hello Mr FredTC, got the technical issue, but the language used by Thundering Typhoons! while reverting my work is what I found offensive. He used the words "Grey Blob". Anirban KolkataAnirban Kolkata (talk) 17:02, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- He's merely being descriptive. I'm sure that as a Brit, he doesn't find the word "blob" offensive, just as I as an American would never think that word would cause offense. This is the first time I've ever heard or seen anyone find it offensive. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:35, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ikan:Thanks Ikan for your kind intervention in the "grey blob" issue. Actually, when Typhoons wrote those two words, at first as I did not know the meaning of those two words, so I googled the meaning of those two words, and in the first page of google results, the last result referred those two words to "vaginal discharge". It is quite unfortunate that I am writing this, but this is the fact Ikan. I hope you understand my hurt feelings now Anirban KolkataAnirban Kolkata (talk) 17:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- I've never heard of that meaning for "blob". A blob is simply an odd shape, such as that of an amoeba. Meanwhile, we would all appreciate if you would take the advice to use the standard Wiki practice of not putting unnecessary spaces without colons at the beginning of your replies on talk pages. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:45, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
@Ikan:Thanks Ikan for your kind words. I hope Typhoons used those words in the meaning as described by you. I am officially ending the "grey blob" issue here, giving respect to your views. And by the way, I have a good news for you. I have become an Autoconfirmed user of Wikivoyage. Hope I can upload some pictures now :-) And no spaces, only colons Anirban KolkataAnirban Kolkata (talk) 17:53, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- You're still using spaces at the beginning of each post. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:59, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- I have got it Ikan . One more thing, my talk option has become black(frozen) after signing. Anirban KolkataAnirban Kolkata (talk) 18:15, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- I don't understand what you mean. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:38, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- When I am signing my name at the end of a message, the talk page link word is turning black instead of blue, i.e. it has become non-linkable to my Talk page. I hope you understand Ikan Anirban KolkataAnirban Kolkata (talk) 20:47, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- I understand what you mean, but the name in your signature is a blue link for me, so I can't say why it wouldn't be for you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek, Anirban Kolkata:, that happens because this is the page so clicking it wouldn't be necessary. It's different on wikipedia. And I pretty sure Jamie didn't mean anything offensive by saying grey blob. And as someone from Oz, there's only three words that I find offensive which I'll not list them here, plus a few sayings. SHB2000 (talk) 01:03, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, you're right. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:22, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- For which one, the signature or TT not being offensive? SHB2000 (talk) 02:30, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- If I link the same article I'm typing on, it's black. But Anirban Kolkata's user page should be blue for everyone. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:42, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, but not his talk page. I think that's what Anirban Kolkata means. SHB2000 (talk) 03:50, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
yes everybody, my talk option is turning black after I post. But somehow I can still access my talk page through other means, so I am ending the talk issue here Anirban KolkataAnirban Kolkata (talk) 21:03, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the "blocks" SHB2000. Hope you have got my thanks in your notifications Anirban Kolkata Anirban Kolkata (talk) 21:14, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yes I did get it. SHB2000 (talk) 21:37, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Your talk page is only turning black here because this is your talk page. If you go onto some other page, it'll be blue. SHB2000 (talk) 22:24, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
