Hello, AITFFan1! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:34, 15 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

What airports get their own articles

[edit]

Hi, AITFFan1, and thank you for contributing content! I want to talk to you a little bit about airports, though. Wikipedia, being an encyclopedia, tries to have an article about every airport, no matter how small. Wikivoyage does not. Please see Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition#Article criteria, Wikivoyage:What is an article?#Exceptions and Wikivoyage talk:Airport Expedition#What airports are suitable? Another measure of whether an airport should get its own dedicated article is whether coverage of it is overwhelming the article for the main city it serves. MacArthur Airport has nowhere near the size and traffic needed for it to have its own article. The only question is where to merge and redirect the content to.

All the best,

Hi Ikan Kekek,
My sincerest apologies. I (clearly) misread the "take the plunge" guidelines, and assumed it was more like how it is with Wikivoyage city articles. Thank you for explaining this to me, and, again, my apologies – I will bear this information in mind going forward.
As far as where to redirect it, that is a good question. Given that you have much more experience than I do with Wikivoyage airport articles, I trust your say on the matter. Perhaps the Town of Islip article, the Suffolk County article, and/or the Long Island article could be good candidates for the redirect(s)?
Cheers,

No need to apologize! There was no way for you to know, and adding information is never bad. But anyway, on Talk:Long Island MacArthur Airport, we've been talking about merging and redirecting to Islip#By plane. We could use your input on what is not already at that link and should be merged into it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:05, 18 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
