User talk:Jtamad
Hello, Jtamad! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.
Thanks for your edits so far. Glad to have you aboard.
All the best,

- @Ikan Kekek: Thanks, I've been working on WP, but still fairly new. I live in the area so thought I would contribute for Pattaya and area and other places I've visited, mostly in SouthEast Asia. I'm looking at the guidelines for wikivoyage. Jtamad (talk) 02:25, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi Jtamad - thanks for your contributions! Two notes - first, when creating a new article be sure to select the appropriate article type from the "create" screen so that the appropriate WV:Article template is used for the new article. Second, usually only huge airports are given their own articles (see WV:What is an article?#Exceptions) and from the description it sounds like Don Muang Airport might be a minor airport, so I tagged it with a merge to Bangkok. If I've misunderstood and it is actually a huge aiport please remove the merge tag. If you have any questions you can ask them here or in the Pub. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for the info. I'll correct the "create" issue. On the airport, I wouldn't say its minor at all. It was the main international airport for Bangkok, and Thailand until 2006, when Suvarnabbuhmi opened (http://www.wikiwand.com/en/Don_Mueang_International_Airport, http://www.wikiwand.com/en/Suvarnabhumi). I think it could probably justify its own page. A lot of travelers might use it, especially if traveling domestically, but there are also international flights to other places in Southeast Asia. I am going there this weekend, and was planning to gather new information, maybe some pics. When I get back I'll go to the Pub and get some other opinions on whether it deserves a page.
- I don't know enough to have an opinion about whether this airport needs its own article, but have a look at Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition and Wikivoyage talk:Airport Expedition. This would be a particularly relevant thread to start with, if your eyes are glazing over at the earlier discussion: Wikivoyage talk:Airport Expedition#Secondary Airports. And then keep reading for a while, as some succeeding threads continue to cover relevant criteria. Wikivoyage talk:Airport Expedition#Hahn may also be relevant in some ways. One thing to consider: Nowadays, is Don Muang Airport more akin to Gatwick Airport (i.e., should have an article), Stansted Airport (might have a useful article and does, because someone decided to start one, but it was not an obvious case or a high priority) or Luton Airport (does not merit an article)? Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:05, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- It would be like Gatwick I think, if Gatwick the main airport for London before Heathrow. Jtamad (talk) 11:09, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- If that's the case in terms of the size, amount of traffic and complexity of the airport, not just because it's the second airport for Bangkok, it would merit its own article. But the way you'll convince doubters is by using an Airport article template and filling it in. O'Hare International Airport is our first star-nominated airport article, so you can use it as an example and look at any of the others in '''Category:Guide airports'''; I can't link categories, but you can input that into the search bar. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:29, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. I'll work on it in a few days. Thanks for the info on the templates. Will read the links above also. I'll look for stats on the airport. I think it probably deserves it own page. Jtamad (talk) 13:59, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Great. I'll look forward to seeing the article's progress. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:14, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm leaving some notes on the article talk page (https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Don_Muang_Airport&action=submit). I'm still reading the discussion on airport articles and whether they deserve a page. So far, I'd say this airport is important enough to deserve its own page. 223.204.249.140 02:04, 25 March 2015 (UTC) Not previously signed in. Jtamad (talk) 02:18, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
@lkan Kekek:I've decided I don't have an opinion on whether a page is needed for DMK. I went to DMK last Friday and found that the description on the BKK page is about right (a few details need to be updated, which I will do). I will complete this page for DMK, if the consensus is the page is justified. I took some photos that might be helpful. Let me know. Jtamad (talk) 13:05, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
