Hello, Whitsera! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.

Also read tour. Your link to a tour agency in the Historic Burke Tour article you created was deleted. I hope that wasn't the real reason you created the article. In the event it wasn't, why is an itinerary article appropriate? Would it not be more appropriate to create a regular destination article about Burke, or if there isn't enough potential content, a simple listing in the article for the nearest town? As it is, it looks like a good candidate for a merge and redirect to the nearest town, Wallace.

Your participation in a discussion would be appreciated, so I hope for a reply from you below.

Best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:15, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ikan Kekek,

We are currently working on a Historic Tour of the ghost towns that lie upon Burke Road and eventually terminate at Burke. We are not a tour agency. TourWallace is a project produced by Wallace High School students to help vistors navigate the missing buildings of Wallace. The newest project by the students is a tour of Burke, which is close to Wallace. We are currently exploring utilizing OSMAND's (https://osmand.net/) app that utilizes Travel Guides downloaded from WikiVoyage for our Burke tour. The Burke area is remote and does not have cell signal along the route. So we are exploring apps that allow downloads of content prior to going up the road.

We thought itineraries made sense because we are proposing a tour itinerary. There are multiple stops along the route.

Please explain to me why an itinerary doesn't work well for this type of activity.

@Ikan Kekek: Just in case you miss the reply.
Now, to this talk page's owner: first, I'll explain something: it's a pleasant surprise to get a response. Often, tour agents (guides) use Wikivoyage as a place to advertise their tour to make money, which isn't allowed. However, it's worth noting that tours are generally not allowed. Now, a tour to somewhere like Chernobyl is different it's essential to have a tour agent when you go there. Otherwise, tours are mostly not allowed on Wikivoyage.
The best thing you can do is add your tour to Wallace (Idaho) (that's the place, right?) as destinations to visit, rather than as an actual tour. Let individuals decide which places they want to visit. OK? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:06, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I am fine with the removal of Tour Wallace, it links to an outside site (also, it's not Burke related). But, can an outside link be added to the Wallace Page? Also, I need you to discuss the Burke Tour. Why is it not an itinerary? What is the purpose of the itinerary template? Why is it less valid than a tour to Chernobyl or the Breaking Bad Tour? Who gets to decide what makes a valid tour vs an invalid one? --Whitsera (talk) 00:21, 16 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

As Ikan Kekek stated, Wikivoyage:Tour. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 00:42, 16 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Whitsera, thanks for your responses and questions. In the case of Chernobyl, it is very difficult to get permission to enter unless you participate in a guided tour. In the case of Breaking Bad Tour, it's thematic, and look at the number of stops on that tour! A ghost town is either, as it appears in this case, a listing in the article for the nearest town, of if there's a lot of content, it can be its own destination guide. What's the itinerary aspect of it? A weak or absent cellphone signal doesn't make it an itinerary. As for who gets to make decisions on this site: Everybody. If you would like to argue for why an itinerary article is most appropriate for Burke, make your argument at Talk:Historic Burke Tour and see if you can persuade a consensus. If you can, you will win the argument. Simple (and potentially difficult) as that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:01, 16 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Removal of tour from Wallace (Idaho)

You are not allowed to simply move content from one article to another, or remove content, against consensus. Keep in mind that, if this happens, you may be blocked. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:08, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

The new consensus established at Talk:Historic Burke Tour supports your itinerary, so you can now work on it without interruption. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:41, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
