Good idea! (WT-en) Majnoona 23:08, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)

I don't really think that "copyedit" is Wikivoyage jargon per se. I'm going to remove it unless others think it really belongs here. (WT-en) Majnoona 07:56, 29 March 2006 (EST)

Jargon is a barrier to newbies

Swept in from the Traveller's Pub

Will someone please tell me what isln stands for? I often come across those jorgons like vfd especially in discussion pages. Search engine does not help me to find those words' meanings. Maybe a glossary page for them? Or discourage to use them.(WT-en) Nightingale 11:31, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)

isIn stands for "is in", see Template talk:IsIn. VfD is Project:Votes for deletion. Unfortunately shorthand like this evolves out of necessity, because long-term users will isin, vfd, rvt etc hundreds of articles... And actually, a Google search for vfd will explain the concept in the first result! (WT-en) Jpatokal 11:35, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)
Maybe we should start a Project:Jargon page to make it easier for new users? I think it'd be a nice addition to Project:tips for new contributors. --(WT-en) Evan 12:18, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)
Thank you. I support Evan's idea that is user-friendly.(WT-en) Nightingale 11:59, 20 Feb 2006 (EST)

What does this mean?

[edit]

AFAIK? -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 16:52, 31 October 2006 (EST)

"As far as I know". That's more of a bit of email and newsgroup slang, not really Wikivoyage jargon, but it may be useful nonetheless. Some other ones that may be worthwhile: AFAICT (as far as I can tell), IIRC (if I remember correctly), FWIW (for what it's worth), YMMV (your mileage may vary -- in other words, it works for me, but it might not for you), AIUI (as I understand it), IMHO (in my humble opinion). I'm not sure if it's our job to document all this kind of abbreviation, but maybe we could link to pages that do...? --(WT-en) Evan 17:10, 31 October 2006 (EST)
Thanks. I occassionally see these acronyms on Wikivoyage and I have no idea what it means and occassionally throws off the meanin of a comment so I'd suggest adding them. -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 18:30, 1 November 2006 (EST)
I've added a link to WikiPedia:List of Internet slang, which hopefully solves the problem. I tend to agree with Evan that we probably don't want to create a list of all internet jargon here - it's not travel specific, and it would hide the Wikivoyage-specific jargon. -- (WT-en) Ryan 18:44, 1 November 2006 (EST)
Great idea! -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 19:07, 1 November 2006 (EST)

up for userpages

[edit]

Is "up" really widely used for "user pages"? I've never seen it here, especially in lower case. --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 11:33, 11 November 2008 (EST)

Is it just me, but doesn't "wv" stand for Wikiversity, not Wikivoyage? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:21, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
