Article naming

To those contributing to this article: Please see our naming conventions. It seems to me that "Þingvellir National Park" can not be an English word as the initial character is not in our alphabet. I see that the article was at one time moved to the anglicized version and then later moved back. I propose to move it back to the English version unless dissuaded here. -- (WT-en) OldPine 10:32, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

Sorry, I saw this comment after moving the article again... in Iceland and in guidebooks the park is called "Þingvellir", and while there are references to "Thingvellir" on the web I think it is more confusing to a traveler to try to Romanize this one. Having just visited Iceland myself, I would not necessarily have recognized that "Thingvellir" referred to the same place as the national park name I saw on maps and highway signs. Unlike Thai, Chinese, or a language which has a completely unique alphabet Icelandic is mostly the same as English, so the "Romanized" versions of place names aren't in common usage. As a result, Romanizing the name seems more likely to hinder a tourist than to help so long as we make sure to create redirects for the non-Icelandic versions of the destination names. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 00:01, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

Alternative banner for this article?

In the Hebrew Wikivoyage we are currently using this banner instead of the one which is currently used here. Do you think too that this banner would would better than the existing one? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 06:43, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

I don't know. I think they're both really good banners. Whichever one isn't used as a banner should be used in photo form. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:03, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Typo?

Current lede has:

Þingvellir National Park (pronounced Thingvetlir)...

Is that pronunciation correct, or should "tl" be "ll"? Pashley (talk) 15:16, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
