[edit]

I was really hating the nighttime picture of the fountain in the banner. It just wasn't obvious what it was to people not familiar with the city. I replaced with a waterfront scene, although happy for anyone with a better picture to make an alternate suggestion. Andrewssi2 (talk) 00:37, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's a fine image.
The general idea of banners is good - a sock-em-in-the-eye attractive, large image that tries to encapsulate something of the destination. However, like much of this site, it is very poorly implemented visually.
For those with small screens, the horizontal TOC obliterates most of the image. The TOC and title should be in a separate (but merging) panel below the eye candy and all those annoying star and DOTM logos shoudl go there too along with the afterthought that is the (usually ignored or misunderstood) cue to click on a full-screen dynamic map. --150.101.89.130 01:10, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Districts[edit]

Adelaide might need districtification soon, but when we do eventually do that, just what I had in mind:

Not sure where Garden Island + Torrens Island should go to, but I'd like to to be covered under Adelaide/Port Adelaide, Enfield, Prospect and Outer Harbor, only because the only road going in there is from Outer Harbor. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:17, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For the first one, I'd say in colloquial speech, "City" is much more common than "CBD", although "CBD" is also understood. However, the terms "City", "city centre" and "CBD" do not normally include North Adelaide, so I'd name it Adelaide/City and North Adelaide. The dog2 (talk) 15:25, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@The dog2: done. I was originally thinking of doing that, but I thought some might think that "North Adelaide" means the outer north which is Adelaide/Salisbury and Tea Tree Gully in this case. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:52, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
About how many listings would you expect in each district? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno. I've never lived in Radelaide, only went there as a tourist. Probably just the same amount as you'd put in a usual district but can double check as I'm going there on Tuesday pending restrictions on Omicron. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:20, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
True that it may confuse some outsiders, but if you mention "North Adelaide" to a local or anyone who has lived in Adelaide for a significant amount of time, there is no ambiguity as to what it means. The dog2 (talk) 08:39, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I guess so as even the suburb name is called "North Adelaide". SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:07, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Have made some banners. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:59, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Port Adelaide, Enfield, Prospect and Outer Harbor
City and North
City and North
City and North

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I was thinking though, should we make a banner using St Peter's Cathedral for City and North Adelaide. That's probably the most beautiful church in Adelaide and something many tourists would want to see. Adelaide isn't really a place you go to for city life. It's a lot less bustling than than Sydney, Melbourne or Perth. The dog2 (talk) 05:51, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes, how did I forget about St Peter's? One of my favorites when in the city of churches. Unfortunately, it doesn't really come off well in a 7:1 ratio but I'll look for more banners. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 06:00, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@The dog2 I'm going to put this thing on hold, for another year, because there seems to be a large number of new national parks, and they will need articles – and I'm not sure how to incorporate them in. Is that ok with you? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 05:38, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I don't think this is that urgent. The dog2 (talk) 05:39, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@The dog2 The national parks don't seem to affect the boundaries, but I've made a map. Do most people in Adelaide consider Gawler to be a part of Adelaide or a separate city? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:04, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say it's borderline, but I'd say it's a separate city. Vaticidalprophet might want to weigh in too. The dog2 (talk) 15:49, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd definitely lean towards a definition as a separate city. Vaticidalprophet (talk) 22:58, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Okay, I guess we'll leave it as its own city then.

On another note can national parks like Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park—Winaityinaityi Pangkara be treated as a city district but have the "park" article classification? I've never seen this happen before, but I guess there's always a first. Manhattan/Central Park seems the only one I can find, but that's classified as a city district, not a park. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:06, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The same with w:Belair National Park too. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:06, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Districtification 90% done. Just the drink section left. The only reason I left that to the end is because I'm not that familiar with Adelaide's pubs, bars and nightclubs. After that, the only thing that needs to be done is content added to the new districts. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:40, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
After 1.5 months – done. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:12, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Overlap Adelaide Hills & South and East Adelaide[edit]

Adelaide Hills and Adelaide/South and East both have detailed listings of Belair National Park, Cleland Conservation Park and Morialta Conservation Park. Would it maybe be better to cover them only once in their appropriate page? Ontoka (talk) 13:14, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
