There's not much to choose between them, but like you I prefer the current banner. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 18:47, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think the current one is clearly better. The picture quality is better and it's much more interesting to see camels than to not see them. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:54, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek Just out of curiosity, is it that the camels are just not what you'd expect in Australia? (just asking out of curiosity, because I'm curious to know whether most people who are not Australian associate the Outback with camels)
As an interesting side fact, Australia has the largest camel population anywhere in the world, and that's because it was another invasive species brought from the Middle East and India so that inland Australia could be explored. Unfortunately, today, they remain as pests but no pest management program has deemed to be successful to this day. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:19, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
No, it's just interesting to see them on the road, as opposed to not seeing animals on the road. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:51, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The current; it's much clearer. As with Ikan, it's also more interesting with animals (camels or not) than without. I know the camels are not native to Australia, but I also know there are a lot of them in the Outback. Isn't the name of the Ghan kind of associated with them, after all? Vidimian (talk) 07:49, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
As to the Ghan, AFAIK, it's associated with the name Afghan when Afghan workers migrated during British rule during the 19th century. This has a bit about it. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:57, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yeap, the first occupation they took up was riding and taking care of the camels, used for transportation and exploration across the Outback. Vidimian (talk) 08:04, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, they're now pests :-(. Some of them are imported to the Middle East but it's a very slow process. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:12, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Australia has such a peculiar ecosystem (a result of millions years of separation from the rest of the world's land area) that any outside species introduced to it quickly becomes a pest, sadly. It would be surprising otherwise. Vidimian (talk) 08:38, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
