Merge[edit]

This should be merged and redirected to Caraquet . There is nowhere to stay, the only thing to see is the sky, and the only thing to do is to leave town to go to beaches elsewhere. Ground Zero (talk) 21:19, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. The first sentence: "Black Rock is a city in New Brunswick with a population of less than 100" and then there's the rest of the "article." Yes, let's merge as requested. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:21, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. First off, population is irrelevant. Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia has just barely over 100 citizens yet no one is calling for its merger. Second, wiaa says an article needs at least one "See" or "Do" listing, not necessarily one of each. The Tintamarre parade qualifies. Thirdly, if there are two "Eat" listings and "many many shops", that's the clincher. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 21:28, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
It's 25 km from Caraquet, so that town would be a good base for visiting Black Rock for the parade on the one day a year there is a "see or do" in Black Rock. It would be more useful to list the Tintamarre in the Caraquet article, and redirect this one there. Ground Zero (talk) 21:39, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Oppose in view of the point that there are "many shops". Let's let this article develop. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:52, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

In the last 14 years, this article has developed to this stage where it provides no useful information to travellers. I despair about how crappy we are willing to let articles be in the name of "future development" that never comes. Why is Black Rock any more deserving of an article than every other hamlet that has some shops? Because user:Kingjeff decided in 2005 to start an article for this hamlet in Wikitravel? The article has barely developed since then. The only consolation is that the Wikitravel article is no better. I think we should give some thought to aiming for quality over this sort of twaddle. Also, notice how w:Black Rock brings up several places called "Black Rock" in Canada, especially in Nova Scotia, but there's no entry for the one in New Brunswick. And Wikipedia has articles about almost everything worth knowing about. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:40, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
The restaurants have closed or never existed. The post office closed in 1969. The Tintamarre -- it doesn't seem to be in Black Rock, but the famous one is in Caraquet. As for shops, there seems to be a farmer's vegetable stand, and nothing else. I think this article is a hoax. Black Rock is a real place (see French Wikipedia), but nothing else in the article is true. Ground Zero (talk) 00:32, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
If you take a look at the satellite imagery I linked above, it's basically just some fields and woodland areas with a couple houses scattered around here and there. While that may technically be a settlement, I hope it's not Wikivoyage's idea of one. There's an actual settlement a couple miles away to the northeast with a French name, but it's definitely not the "city" of Black Rock. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 00:43, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Guys, thanks for doing that research. I see no reason to check your work. On the basis of your research, I support the merge proposal. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:34, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
@AndreCarrotflower: How do you feel about this following the recent turn of events? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 04:37, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
My previous comments were predicated on the assumption that the information in the article was accurate and applied to Black Rock in particular, rather than Caraquet. Since that's not the case, I don't object to a merger. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 05:03, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
