Talk:Burlington County
Making this article more useful
[edit]Here is another case where more than ten years ago some added links for every municipality in the county without regard to whether that place would meet the test in wv:wiaa for having an article. There are 24 places listed, of which 17 are redlinks, 2 are skeleton articles, and 1 is misdirected to Charlotte NC, leaving only 4 useful articles for readers. The map should help readers find the places for which we have articles. Google Maps, Waze and paper maps are better tools to find other places.
I propose to delete all of the redlinks, redirect the skeleton articles to nearby communities, and delete the misdirect. Ground Zero (talk) 11:40, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

- Of course, if anyone wants to create articles for any of these places, I would not want to delete them. This is just about making it easier to find information by not making them look for the 4 useful articles in a list of 24 links. Ground Zero (talk) 12:07, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Probably best to put html markup around though. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:10, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Do you mean commenting out the redlinks rather than deleting them? Sure, that makes sense. Ground Zero (talk) 12:12, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Nah, just do something like

- Deleting red links is fine to do unilaterally. Since this is about Burlington County, New Jersey, it's important to make sure we know which Mt Holly we're talking about. The one in North Carolina, the redirect for which is currently misplaced in this article, had 17,703 inhabitants as of the 2020 census, and it's in Gaston County, NC. Mount Holly, NJ, had 9,981 inhabitants in that census. However, if you look at w:Mount Holly, New Jersey#Points of interest, I daresay there's enough there that, along with restaurants and so forth, a worthwhile Wikivoyage could be written by someone familiar with the place. By contrast, there seems to be precious little to do in Mount Holly, NC, other than go to Charlotte. When I looked up "Mount Holly NC things to see", I got among others these Yelp results, in which not one result was in Mount Holly. So unless someone with real inside knowledge knows about delicious restaurants or something that none of my search results are giving us, it seems to me that Mount Holly (North Carolina) should indeed be redirected to Charlotte Metro, but Mount Holly (New Jersey) should probably eventually have its own article. To be clear, I don't oppose redirecting the latter for now, but would it be better to redirect it to the town of Burlington (New Jersey), rather than the county article? It's 7 miles away. - We also probably need a disambiguation page for Mount Holly, not the current redirect to Charlotte Metro. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:42, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- I also saw that Mount Holly NJ has POIs, which is why I did not comment it out. I hope that someone will create that article. If you want to redirect it in the interim to Burlington, I have no objection. Ground Zero (talk) 22:10, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- There's no urgency about that. Does anyone else have an opinion on whether or where to redirect Mount Holly (New Jersey)? Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:25, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- Uhh, you left a red link.--JTZegers (talk) 17:03, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- JTZegers, you could have and should have deleted it in the time you took to post that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:19, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek:, I know it has been a while since this discussion, but it just occurred to me that I have a better idea. Maybe I could try to make that article? I'm just worried it might not be notable enough, per this.--JTZegers (talk) 15:14, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Like I said, I think there could easily be enough there for an article, so sure, go ahead. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:54, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- If you can list a couple of things to see or do, and a place to sleep, then add a few places to eat and information on how to get there, and you've got yourself an article. Ground Zero (talk) 20:04, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
