Talk:Chongqing Municipality
Add topicDo we need this page? It seems to me that it should be merged with Chongqing. We don't have similar pages for comparable cities such as Beijing, Tianjin or Shanghai. STW932 (talk) 14:03, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
- The other cities have districts. We are talking about an area with a population of over 30 million. Would you merge the content of Dazu into the city or create district articles? --Traveler100 (talk) 14:07, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Clearly Chongqing's size is such that we will (ultimately) need to create district articles. Dazu is in fact a formal district (Dazu District), so I would leave it as it is for the time being. STW932 (talk) 15:42, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
- That could be a good idea. I don't know Chongqing and you do, so I'd respect your feeling about this. I'll just point out that huge cities don't always get district articles on Wikivoyage, and some fairly small cities do get district articles: for example, Karachi has just one article, whereas Richmond and Arlington, Virginia are districted. This has to do with the distribution of points of interest throughout the cities. Saqib, who is very familiar with Karachi and has lived there, says that "Karachi is a huge city but unfortunately, there's really nothing of good interest to tourist except South Karachi district." By contrast, although Richmond and Arlington, Virginia are absolutely tiny compared to Karachi, the points of interest are more evenly distributed throughout town. Thank you for your helpful response. I think for the moment I would prefer to simply focus on getting as many attractions onto the main Chongqing page as possible, then maybe when things start to get a little crowded, I'll look more seriously at developing district articles (perhaps starting with the two existing ones of Dazu and Qijiang). Change new banner
[edit]I want to change the new banner.Thank you!Laoxinyi (talk) 06:49, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Where can we see your proposed new banner? STW932 (talk) 11:24, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- By the way, I agree that the banner needs to be changed. It should not be the same as the one used for central Chongqing. STW932 (talk) 13:07, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- ok, Got it, thanksLaoxinyi (talk) 11:55, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

Listings
[edit]If this is a huge city or region article (which one, by the way? I think huge city), it probably should not have templated listings. How should we handle this? Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:37, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- I thought we agreed six years ago that this should be a region article, though this wasn't stated explicitly. Obviously, if we treat this as a region, the templated listings in the 'Get in' section (which User Laoxinyi copied from the Chongqing article) should be removed. However, the listings under Other Destinations need to stay there until articles have been created to put them in. I would like to create some of those articles myself but I don't have the time right now.
- Other prefecture-level cities treated as regions on Wikivoyage include Jiangmen, Kunming Prefecture and Lhasa (prefecture) (By the way, the latter two are misnamed - they are prefecture-level cities, not prefectures.) STW932 (talk) 05:47, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm fine with treating this as a region. It will be great when all the listings can be moved, but in any case, a summary should be added that lets readers know what the highlights of a visit could be. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:04, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
