Merger[edit]
It has been proposed (Aug 2016) to merge this article into Pétange because there is "No place to stay during a vacation in Differdange."
Oppose- Our policy says "Asking "can you sleep there?" is a guideline. A particular division of territory into pages of reasonable size might make sense for the destination, but leave one article without a hotel. That's fine. Where no lodging in one district is safe or clean, simply note this and move on." This article has a bunch of listings. Merging it into Pétange would make that article longer and messier. - As Wauterz seems to have local knowledge, I'd defer to him/her. I would comment though that Wikivoyage isn't just for tourists: it should be of use also to people travelling for business, academic or family reasons. Ground Zero (talk) 11:00, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- Partial support - Seen as how I was the one that marked this page for merging, I'd like to give my statements here; Differdange isn't the most tourism-heavy of places, and nearby Esch-sur-Alzette and Pétange are the bigger cities in the region. It might, however be better to merge Differdange with Esch, as these two have grown together, whereas Pétange isn't quite there yet, even though it is close. If I were to merge them now, however, I'd prefer if there was to be a page for the Esch-s-A Canton, instead of three pages for Esch, Pétange and Differdange.

- Comment - I have no expertise on Luxembourg, but the article says this is the 4th-largest city in Luxembourg, although Wikipedia gives its population as 10,248 in 2001. Nevertheless, that makes me skeptical that it shouldn't have its own article. I'll bet (more) listings could be added to "Buy" and "Eat", and there have to be bars to serve the student population (see w:Differdange or this article's "See" section). If anything, should the merge — if there is one — be done the other way, given that w:Pétange reports that city's population as 7,399 in 2007? Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:21, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- Esch is a genuinely bigger city: 33,286 per w:Esch-sur-Alzette. It's the 2nd-largest in the duchy. But I'm still skeptical. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:23, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek: Having visited the region last year, I can tell you that the entire Land of the Red Rocks (=Esch-s-A Canton) is a former mining region. The region is definitely not the biggest when it comes to culture and events. Even if having the page Differdange helps Wikivoyage because it is the 4th-largest city in the country, can it not be made a redirect to the Canton's page? Even the tourist guide I took with me after last year's visit isn't of much help. Of the 80 pages that make up its content, a mere seven are dedicated to the Land o/t Red Rocks, and the other pages have all got about the double. I'll see if there is anything to add to the page, though I think I got most of it covered when I made the article.

- Depends on what you're referring to with the term duchy. My best guess is the Luxembourgian districts? If so, then for now the answer will be yes. It might very well turn out that the cantons are the best way to subdivide Luxembourg, but I'm sure we'll come to discuss that at another time.

- That will most likely be the case, yes. It might be that some articles will have the same coverage as an article on the related Canton would have, though that would be caused by lack of places that we wish to cover.
