Talk:Greek Islands

I've started a "quick island finder" on this page, since I've found that a very common question among people planning a trip to Greece is, "How do you decide among all those islands." This is a work in progress and I'd encourage knowledgeable people to add to it. Please keep the formatting, or if you want to change it, change it everywhere. My opinion is that in this list, and on this page generally, there shouldn't be any external links; those belong on the island pages. (WT-en) Sailsetter 11:26, 5 August 2008 (EDT)

Also, please note that Crete and Evvia aren't included on this page for the reasons given there. (WT-en) Sailsetter 11:42, 5 August 2008 (EDT)

Rhodes[edit]

Why is Rhodes listed as a seperate region, when it is actually a part of the Dodecanese island? (WT-en) ViMy 07:31, 5 October 2009 (EDT)

Probably because it is the largest and most popular one. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 18:25, 31 January 2010 (EST)

"Other destinations"[edit]

These shouldn't be cities - which should be in the "Cities" list, until it reaches up to 9 - nor should they be islands, I wouldn't think. Is there any disagreement on this? If not, what should be there, in this instance? Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:15, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aegina[edit]

The Saronic island pages treat their port and main town as synonymous with the island, which makes sense - except Aegina which distinguishes them. I don't think this works, the place is only 10 km across, and I propose bringing the town and island pages together. Grahamsands (talk) 19:38, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No views, so the city page is now redirected into the island page. Integrating, building and updating that page all follow. Grahamsands (talk) 08:30, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Island classification[edit]

Some of the categories are incorrect. For example, as a user mentions above, Rhodes should be in the Dodecanese category and it doesn't matter that it is the biggest island in the group. Also, the division between east and north aegean is wrong. They are the "Northeastern Aegean Islands", so they should be in one category. I tried to change it yesterday, but another user reverted it back to the current form, probably because there isn't a page titled northeastern aegean islands, and I think we can't change the title on an existing page here. So, should I create a new page with the right title and then redirect the articles? —The preceding comment was added by Aknonymm.. (talkcontribs)

First go ahead and add the new region, and then we can consider redirecting the other articles. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:38, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hold it - what is your complete proposal for regional divisions of Greek Islands? Please lay it all out clearly below. Also, I'm quite unconvinced about Rhodes. It's such a major island that it might be very much in the interest of travelers for it to be given its own region on this site, with it simply being mentioned there and in Dodecanese that Rhodes is in that chain but is covered separately because of its size and variety of attractions. By the way, this is right in the lede of the Rhodes article: "The island is usually counted as one of the Dodecanese, but due to its importance for travelers is considered separately here." What's illogical about that? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:11, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
