Talk:Kanto

I have heard that people in the Kanto region like natto better than do people in the Kansai region but saying that they think that it is actually edible is a little bit less than totally diplomatic in my opinion. I live in Greater Tokyo right now and I have natto about every day, and as a westerner I understand that it is a little hard to adjust to but I personally like it and so do most Japanese people I talk to, so in my humble opinion I think that it is quite edible, and from what I hear it is also very healthy.

Map[edit]

Someone whose Inkscape actually works might want to fix the map label and decapitalize placenames on this map. Onegaishimasu! (WT-en) texugo 12:04, 12 August 2011 (EDT)

City List[edit]

I've just removed Atami from the list, because it isn't even in the region, but I find it still to be a rather odd list and surprising considering it's Kanto. Mashiko may be interesting or an "other" candidate, but not a "Top 9". Others are questionable, too. To me, these are all worthy candidates:

Maybe Utsunomiya. Gunma and Ibaraki don't have many major destinations. Gunma's newly added World Heritage sites would be good for "others", as well as some of its hot springs probably. Ashikaga would probably qualify as an "Other" with the Flower Park's wisteria having gained international attention and even making "Must see before you die"-type of lists. Dynamic map errors[edit]

What's going on with the prefectures in the dynamic map?

  • Saitama isn't showing up at all, even though its WD item links to the correct OSM relation.
  • Tokyo is drawn as a blocky blob rather than following its correct outline. Its WD item also links to the correct OSM relation.

New banner[edit]

Current banner (suggestion 0): Shibuya crossing, also used for Tokyo/Shibuya.
Suggestion 1: View from Tokyo Skytree.
Suggestion 2: Neon lights in Shinjuku. Current banner.
Suggestion 3: Surfers in Kamakura.
Suggestion 4: Mt Fuji seen from Lake Ashi. Used for Hakone.
Suggestion 5: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
Suggestion 5: Okutama.
Suggestion 6: Nokogiriyama.
Suggestion 7: Ashikaga.

The current banner doubles for Tokyo/Shibuya. We should consider a unique one. /Yvwv (talk) 01:22, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Great new banners! 3, 2, 1 for me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:25, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Added a banner, and made the numbering more clear. /Yvwv (talk) 01:28, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Same as Ikan here (3,2,1) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:44, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Now that you've renumbered the banners and added two: 2, 4, 1, 3, 0. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:07, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Meant the same as well. 2, 4, 1, 3 and then 0/current. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:10, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As for Tokyo (prefecture), we could consider a banner which is not from Tokyo. /Yvwv (talk) 03:56, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Replaced the banner temporarily, as it was in double use. Still the vote is ongoing, and I would prefer a non-Tokyo banner. /Yvwv (talk) 15:55, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your point about choosing something outside of Tokyo is well-taken, but the Hakone picture will likely be used in the Hakone article. If the current Shinjuku picture is not used here, it should definitely be put in the Shinjuku or Tokyo article. It is a much higher-quality photo. The other options are either also from Tokyo and/or are a bit lackluster to me. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 10:40, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good suggestion. I made one. /Yvwv (talk) 11:46, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Suggestion 2 would be an excellent candidate for Tokyo and even Japan (or articles such as Japanese phrasebook). Can we find another good Kanto banner not from Tokyo? /Yvwv (talk) 22:22, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
