Wikivoyage listing templates[edit]
The reason for this edit is that attempts to communicate with the unregistered dynamic IP user who has been moving listings to Kathmandu district articles have been unsuccessful, so drastic action was in my opinion needed. Please stop using "bdi" templates and instead use standard Wikivoyage listing templates for all listings. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:59, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- I appreciate that the bdi template is no longer used, but I am unable copy and paste Wikivoyage listing templates. If I open new templates for each listing, then I will need to transfer every detail to the new template line by line (name, address, phone number etc etc will all need to be individually retyped for each listing), and, unfortunately, I just don't have the time to do that. So, what do you suggest - that we use the bdi templates as we are transferring a large number of listings to new articles or just leave the information on the original page until someone has the time and energy to type the information for each listing into a new template. - I've fixed it up to the best of my ability - please check my work. You have to find another way to copy things over, though. Fixing the bdi templates was a hassle that I don't want to go through again. Can you not open up the source article and cut out the listings with the original code? - Thank you, but I have no idea how to copy and the paste the Wikivoyage listing templates. If I click on edit, I cannot copy the listing. It only allows me to edit it. The only way was to close the edit, and copy and paste the bdi templates. So the situation remains the same: I cannot copy and paste the Wikivoyage listing templates, and I don't have the time to transfer every detail to the new template individually, line by line (name, address, phone number etc etc). So, I ask the question, should I move the listings from the old article to the new one using bdi templates, or leave the listings on the original article and hope that in the future someone will have the time to transfer each listing line by line. - You seem to be having a problem that other editors don't have. I have no trouble copying large blocks of listings with the original code - it isn't a matter of someone copying listings line by line. I don't think that copying with bdi templates makes sense, but let's see what other editors have to say. Ground Zero (talk) 18:05, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- OK, maybe I'm doing something wrong, and perhaps you can identify my mistake. As an example, I click on 'edit' for 'See' on the Central Kathmandu article. I click on the first listing 'Asa Archives'. I use my mouse to copy or cut the listing. It cannot be done. It only offers me the option of editing the listing, not to cut or copy and paste it. I close the 'edit' option and click on the listing. Now, I am able to copy it and paste it elsewhere. However, the listing is as a bdi template, not Wikivoyage listing template. - I always work in desktop mode. Look at the very bottom of an article in mobile mode, and there you should've able to select desktop mode. In desktop mode, instead of clicking on the listing, go to the top of the article. There is a series of tabs: Page - Discussion - Read - Edit - View history. Clicking on the Edit tab opens up the whole article, and from there I can select and cut or copy blocks of text with their code. Let me know if that works. - Thank you for explaining politely. Yes, it does work if I click on more than one listing. Previously, as the relevant districts for the listings were mixed together, I was trying to cut and paste one listing at a time, and that didn't work. From now on, I'll be less disruptive. - Ground Zero, thanks for explaining how it's done. 202.51.93.63, no worries, but there is another thing you can do to facilitate communication: Register a username, so that we don't have to chase after a continually changing series of dynamic IPs and can contact you effectively via your user talk page. Non standard Name[edit]
