Turkish trains[edit]

The opening of the Ankara - Sivas high speed line seems a good time to post this page. I've linked it to "Rail travel in Europe" because although most of the network is in Asia, to date the only international connection is from Europe, and the gauge is European.

Experience on-train is described earlier than on similar pages, and the structure is a little different, as it seemed important at the outset to lay out the difference between fast and conventional trains.

Some content currently in Turkey / Istanbul get in / around sections can now be condensed. Grahamsands (talk) 16:04, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I removed close to 4,000 characters from Turkey: Get around: By train. Vidimian (talk) 17:17, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Banner 1
Banner 2
Banner 3

I've tried my hand at creating a banner for this article, but couldn't decide which one to use among alternatives:

  • Banner 1 shows the Fırat Express hauled by an old-school diesel loco amidst the quintessential Anatolian steppe near Elazığ. This is what half of long-distance Turkish passenger trains look like.
  • Banner 2 shows the other half on the other end of the spectrum: a slick high-speed on a viaduct near Bilecik.
  • Banner 3 shows what is halfway: a modern, but not extremely so, regional train on an early 20th century viaduct near Karabük. The rough terrain is pretty common along many rail lines in the country.

Any opinions? Vidimian (talk) 23:06, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Three good banners. Banner 3 is my favourite. AlasdairW (talk) 19:31, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Three good banners indeed. I prefer B 1 as it indicates what rail travellers will experience, once they venture beyond the YHT. B 3 runner-up for depicting the terrain. Grahamsands (talk) 08:31, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My favourite is 3, closely followed by 1 and then 2. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 06:20, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Banner 3 is my favorite, but I like all of them, and particularly banner 1. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 11:34, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Banner 3 is inserted. I also added the source image of the runner-up, banner 1, to the article. Vidimian (talk) 21:57, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Internatıonal tickets[edit]

Seat 61 explains well - should we just link to that rather than writing here? Chidgk1 (talk) 17:53, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, please see wv:External links. In short, we want the information here rather than a simple link. Everything's written somewhere on the internet after all, and linking them instead of writing our own here would make Wikivoyage more of a link farm than a travel guide. External link?[edit]

Would this nerd site be useful? https://www.egtre.info/wiki/Turkey_-_General_Information Chidgk1 (talk) 18:42, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah I see you replied above no Chidgk1 (talk) 18:54, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
