New banner request
[edit]The banner is not showing the Town hall completely. It's not even showing the iconic top roof part of the Town hall. The current banner shouldn't be used for Subotica. What do you think? Can my banner be a good replacement for the current one? Jankela121 (talk) 18:59, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- I'm reluctant to support your proposed banner because it shows fireworks and therefore doesn't give an impression of what this city looks like on most nights of the year. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:46, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- What about this then? (Version 2) Jankela121 (talk) 13:17, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
- Fireworks lighting without the fireworks themselves. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:56, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- That lighting is barely noticeable. People would still probably prefer a panorama where you can see things fully unlike on the current banner. For you it's obvious why that error is there. Because you saw the previous picture that I modified to get rid of unwanted objects. It would be different for a new visitor of this page. I did forget to remove this part of the firework, but other than that I think it could be a good banner replacement. I'd like to hear other people's opinion on this. @SelfieCity,@ThunderingTyphoons! - I really am insisting on this banner because I can't find any other "free to use" image of Subotica's panorama that doesn't cut off buildings when cropping it to 7:1 ratio. I won't be travelling there for sure this year so I can't make my own original panorama. Jankela121 (talk) 14:30, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- Support Version 2, reluctantly. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:35, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- I oppose using an edited "impossible view" like version 2. It's confusing (where is the smoke coming from? What's that green Harry Potter looking thing?) and one of the buildings appears to have been edited out. Version 1 with the fireworks is fine with me. —Granger (talk · contribs) 14:40, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- I also don't understand why the current banner is so bad. Sure, it's doesn't merit inclusion at Wikivoyage:Star standard banners, but I'm sure there are worse on Wikivoyage. I think we would do better in these cases to add pagebanners to articles currently without them, rather than trying to change existing ones. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:02, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- I just hate seeing cropped photos on page banners. They don't tell much. Granger, I guess you're right. The fireworks one is most likely not going to be used because of what Ikan said above. I'd still think about this considering that the current banner is a cropped photo.Jankela121 (talk) 17:00, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- Ok here's my last attempt... hopefully not. I removed the smoke and the "Harry Potter" effects. Jankela121 (talk) 17:10, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, but again, the smoke and lighting is confusing and a building is missing. I think we should use an image that's good as is, rather than editing out a bunch of stuff to create an impossible view of the destination. —Granger (talk · contribs) 17:30, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- I'm still not ready to support any version of the new banner. That doesn't mean I love the existing one, but I stated my case above. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:13, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
