Talk:Taal Volcano
Add topicIs there anywhere to sleep here? Any place that servers food? If not, then maybe this is a point of interest for another article?--Traveler100 (talk) 08:26, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Traveler100: This is originally covered in Tagaytay, but it is best covered as a breadcrumb of Batangas for some reasons. Yes, Taal Volcano is frequently associated with Tagaytay if we think about the traveller's interest, but this is some kind of borderline case, because this is a park and protected area that straddles between the Cavite and Batangas travel regions (treating this as an extra-hierarchical region may be fine if consensus says so), but travelers think of the park as a part of Batangas. Maybe we can ask others about this matter, and plunge forward, but we can just keep it as it is clearly indicated there are no accommodations in the volcano proper (but I don't have any clear idea though, even as a Filipino, because I haven't been in a tour to the volcano itself). I don't have any ideas for food either, though.--TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 22:37, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
- Another idea though is listing this as part of the Taal Lake Area region of Batangas. I am subdividing Batangas into four regions (there are already two created: Western Batangas and Metro Batangas), but I cannot spend too much time on those area; there is room for further discussion though.--TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 22:55, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
- @TagaSanPedroAko:, I see this difficulty with this, as you say a border case. I am tending to think it should stay as Park article. Looking at some maps the Taal Volcano Protected Landscape goes a reasonable distance from the shore of the lake. How about including this area in the article? It would then include some hotels that are currently in the Lipa and Tagaytay articles. --Traveler100 (talk) 06:08, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

- Hotels in the cities of Lipa or Tagatay belong in those articles, not here. There are resorts along the east side of the lake, from Cuenca (Batangas) north to about Talisay & perhaps some of those are in outlying barangays of Lipa but belong here.
- Tanauan is 175,000 or so, big enough that I'd wager there's a hotel or two. Smaller places like San Nicolas, Talisay & Laurel certainly have plenty of Filipino food; I did not notice much else, but I was not looking for it. Pashley (talk) 03:49, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
Eruption calming down
[edit]Taal volcanic activity continues to wane and Philvocs has reduced the alert level from four on a five-point scale to two. People are back in places that were evacuated -- Taal, Lemery & even places very close to the volcano like San Nicolas -- though not all businesses have re-opened.
The view over the lake from San Nicolas is interesting. Lots of islands but the one with the volcano stands out because it is entirely covered with grey ash. I was there yesterday & there was no visible volcanic activity. Pashley (talk)
- I'm removing or rewriting various warnings. Pashley (talk) 03:13, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
Second opinion?
[edit]Philvocs just kicked their warning level to 3 on a 5-point scale. When it was 4 last year, several hundred thousand people in several towns were evacuated.
I've therefore changed the caution box at the top of the article to a warning box. Other opinions? Pashley (talk) 02:27, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
September 2023
[edit]There are many news stories like Philippines issues health warning as capital hit by smog, volcanic gas. I've rewritten the warning box, but the situation needs monitoring & the article may need more changes at any time. Pashley (talk) 15:22, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- Does it actually make sense to try and keep this up to date? Or should we just have some sort of generic warning and a link to Philvocs for current info? What link, given that their bulletins change? Pashley (talk) 15:31, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
