Why isn't this article coming up on a google search?

Why isn't this article coming on a google search? TravelAroundOz (talk) 10:43, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It came up as the 15th item on my Google search. Ground Zero (talk) 12:10, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't even come up for me. Strange TravelAroundOz (talk) 20:51, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I just tried it again: same result. I tried with Ecosia, the other browser I use, and came up with nothing in the first 50 results. Same with "Tourist Drive 33 Australia". When I tried "Wikivoyage Tourist Drive 33", I got the Oceania Itineraries article as one of the first results, and my own talk page, but the article didn't appear in the first 50 results. Ground Zero (talk) 21:26, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
2nd-to-last on the 2nd page of Google search results in incognito mode, the 18th result, overall. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:16, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This [1] came up even before TD33 on here. TravelAroundOz (talk) 08:48, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A search for "Tourist Drive 33", had this page in 12th place on Google, but I didn't see it on Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo. Goggle is my main search engine, and it probably "knows" that I prefer Wikivoyage. AlasdairW (talk) 22:26, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should this article be given a higher rank?

Hi Fellow Wikivoyagers

Just wondering whether this can be given a higher rank? If not, what can I do to improve it?

Thanks, TravelAroundOz (talk) 11:20, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I would say that the current rating of Usable is appropriate for the amount and type of content. Guide status is the next level up from Usable, but there's a lot still to be done to reach that. There's still not much information about the route itself, how to follow it, what to see and do along the way, etc. Specifically, I suggest fleshing out everything that's there with more detail.
It will help you to look at the following pages for guidance:
  • Wikivoyage:Itinerary status - the criteria for itinerary articles to be a certain status
  • Wikivoyage:Guide articles - a general overview of Guide articles in general. Note the opening "A guide article is a status rating for any article in Wikivoyage that is essentially complete. This is what a Wikivoyage article is intended to be. Not only would you not need to consult another guide, you'd really have no reason to want to: it's all here."
  • Wikivoyage:Usable articles - the equivalent page to the above for Usable articles
Lastly, I definitely recommend looking at Category:Guide itineraries, which should serve as a model and/or inspiration with the itineraries you're working on. You might consider trying to contact the main author(s) of any articles you particularly like, to see if they have any advice. Personally, I have never written a complete itinerary (though I am working on one in my userspace, which has a lot more route information than this article but is still at outline because it lacks other essential content), so am probably not the best person to give more specific advice than this.--ThunderingTyphoons! Gosh, that is long. TravelAroundOz (talk) 12:03, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Using National Route 40 (Argentina) as a guide. TravelAroundOz (talk) 12:13, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ground Zero, ThunderingTyphoons!: What else can I do now to improve it? TravelAroundOz (talk) 09:48, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder about this statement in the guide: "Many visitors will wonder how much there is to see in such a short drive. The answer is — not much." Is that really the case? Why do people want to drive it? Why was it designated a tourist drive? Filling out the see sections and describing the landscape of each stretch would be a big improvement.
The article now has a Go/See and a Drive section. Is there any reason not to combine them? That would be according to our standard outline. Of course, if there is general information that you want to tell, it could be in the understand, and if you have so much to tell about some sights that it distracts from the Drive content, you could perhaps have a separate See section somewhere (but we usually don't, and there are reasons).

@LPfi: I'm not too sure. The thing is; it depends on what "see" people want. It's home to some really nice and magnificent lookouts here but not everyone is a fan of lookouts. Same with the wineries. TravelAroundOz (talk) 08:58, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what $€€ people are, but write the guide for those who would appreciate driving it. Those who don't like wineries or lookouts could skip them, even if you tell how very much belle they are. If they are the highlights for some people, or something the area is known for, mention that too, and let people choose whether they would take a look in this case for the sake of it. –LPfi (talk) 09:13, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, above comment made no sense. Belle is French for Nice. SEE means see and idk why i put that. Also makes more sense when I'd say what kind of things people who want to "see". TravelAroundOz (talk) 10:05, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the word Belle or mangnificant is commonly used in NSW even though it's french usually meaning extra nice or to say it's really good. TravelAroundOz (talk) 10:07, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also never mind; I need a way to cover all this, this, this and this basically, I've only covered this

How do I add this file on enwiki here?

Hi there, I just want to put this file here. Any idea on how to? Cheers, TravelAroundOz (talk) 10:38, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As this file is not on commons for copyright reasons, it needs to be uploaded locally - using the "Upload file" link on the left. This can be done if Australian copyright law permits editorial use, and you can justify this use on the upload page. See Wikivoyage:EDP. AlasdairW (talk) 00:31, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AlasdairW:, I am a local, and for copyright reasons, I'm not allowed to upload the file or even have it on a computer or anything. TravelAroundOz (talk) 03:00, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless, I've uploaded it. So there's no problems now. TravelAroundOz (talk) 03:06, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Would the "respect road closures" come under No advice from Captain Obvious?

Hey guys. Would the respect road closures come under the Captain Obvious section here? People don't generally respect them when written on VMS gantries. But it looks obvious. So I want your opinion guys. Cheers, TravelAroundOz (talk) 07:44, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think that some of our readers might ignore them too, if the road appears traffic-able, as you put it, and there is no obvious alternative. So yes, I think the paragraph is warranted. It could be written a bit more concisely, and without the expectation the reader is hard to convince. I cut away half of it. Restore it if you feel it is needed. –LPfi (talk) 08:16, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is common for foreigners to ignore these closures. Since our roads are long and go from nowhereville to nowhere coast, they generally put the signs up a lot earlier, even 100+kms away. Common things that don't happen in Europe/North America. TravelAroundOz (talk) 10:44, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not happy:( Asked by: TravelAroundOz (talk) 11:34, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Their About us and Contact us are just empty (with my settings at least). They are anonymously registered (April 2019, unless that was just an update), but their registrant gives the abuse address as abuse@namesilo.com
They seem to have copied all Wikivoyage, and use InstantCommons (direct links?) for the images. So anybody who was written most of a substantial article could complain, and we could probably make their site imageless unless they cooperate. The registrar mentions AZ (Arizona?), US, so somebody in the vicinity could have an easier time actually suing them, if necessary.
We don't give up copyright by licensing our texts and images by a free licence. As long as they attribute the authors, link the licence etc. they are fine – and we are fine with people using our work, but we have legal means against such abuse of our gift.
I'd begin with writing a letter complaining about the copying and asking them to comply with the licences (Wikivoyage is CC BY-SA 3.0, but images may have other licences). First perhaps a notice at the pub.
LPfi (talk) 12:50, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the 1% that's not copied is the credits bit at the bottom :( Can I legally report the website because the TD33 shield is copyrighted + the images too. Furthermore, some links have been blocked by my computer's spam filter (one of them takes you to this link [2] which I've been able to open on incognito made with the spam filter off). TravelAroundOz (talk) 03:03, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As you have written most of this article, and it certainly is above the threshold for a copyrightable work, you can sue them for infringement on your copyright on this article. Likewise if they are using any of your photos. You wouldn't sue right away, of course, but try to negotiate. The normal course of action is to try to get them to comply or, as an alternative, take down the site. You could ask for compensation, but that would leave them open for every contributor to do so, and they would likely have to comply or take down the site anyway, unless they are ready to pay each one asking for it. You couldn't sue them for using the TD33 shield, as you are not the copyright owner, and contributors who don't have "own" articles would have more difficulties in making their case. –LPfi (talk) 09:21, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'd not sue them as I don't particularly like to do reporting/lawsuits etc. for international websites. Personally, I don't care about the work I did but I would mind if it's someone else's work. I will try and notify the owners of the images. TravelAroundOz (talk) 10:04, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your images have appeared in a mirror site

@Tirin, Webboydotnet, Gmie223:. Hey guys, your images have appeared in a mirror site with no contribution or anything attributed to you. Please see the talk page for more info. TravelAroundOz (talk) 10:15, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Like those of thousands of other Commons contributors, I'd guess, as any image used on Wikivoyage appears also on the other site. The three pinged users have no contributions at Wikivoyage, except indirectly through our use of their images. The last user name is not even registered here (in effect meaning they have not looked at any page as logged-in). –LPfi (talk) 11:26, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Improvements to make it a star.

Hi everyone. What can I do to make this article a star article? Since there is no specific template for a star article; I'm kinda unsure on what to do. Since there's only 4 articles in Category:Star itineraries; any other suggestions?

Asked by: TravelAroundOz (talk) 02:40, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@ThunderingTyphoons!: Is there any criteria to make a star itinerary article? I can't seem to find any? TravelAroundOz (talk) 03:40, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! The criteria we have are at WV:Itinerary status and WV:Star articles. They're pretty vague, but should give an idea of what to aim for.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 06:58, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot. What is currently letting it down though? SHB2000 (talk) - The year of the 2000 Sydney Olympics 09:51, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Track vs. Road

I want to change the word below from road to track because it wasn't a road. But it doesn't sound right:

With road: "The Great North Road was not a continuous road for 240 km."

With track: "The Great North Road was not a continuous track for 240 km."

To me, it doesn't sound right. Opinions requested. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:07, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
