Article criteria[edit]

Not all airports get articles; the criteria are at Wikivoyage:Airport_Expedition#Article_criteria. It is not clear to me that this airport meets the criteria. In particular that page has:

"Does the airport have enough food and shopping options to fill out an entire "Buy" and "Eat and Drink" section?"

Currently the Eat and Drink section is empty and Buy has only advice on changing money, nothing about shopping.

If the writers plan to fill out those sections, all is well. Or if an exception to the criteria can be justified (important city, perhaps very busy airport?). Otherwise the article might be a candidate for deletion. Pashley (talk) 03:31, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

w:List of busiest airports by passenger traffic gives the top 50 & does not list this airport. Pashley (talk) 03:46, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
There is no reason to ever nominate an airport article that serves a city for deletion. If this airport does not merit its own article, it should be merged and redirected to Prague. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:53, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
You are correct. Pashley (talk) 11:32, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm inclined to think this article should be kept, but as far as I can tell policy says not. Pashley (talk) 11:48, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
If information about the airport wouldn't overwhelm the Prague article, it should be merged and redirected there. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:51, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
The article is now 13,000 20,000 bytes. The Prague article is 121,000. There would very some overlap, but I think this is too much to stuff into the city article. Let's leave it be. Ground Zero (talk) 17:49, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree – there's no need to merge the article back in. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 05:50, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your discussion. I just might not understand - if I'm new to Wikivoyage compared to Wikipedia - why there's AfD discussion here when I was still adding to the article. There's hardly any article finished on Wikipedia and I thought it was similar here. Thanks for the explanation. --Packa (talk) 17:44, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

You're right about that. The reason for the discussion here is that Wikivoyage's criteria for which airports get their own article, as opposed to merely being covered in the "Get in" section of the most relevant city article, are different from Wikipedia's "have an article about every airport" guidelines. See Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition#Article criteria. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:07, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, now I understand the reason. Contrary to the instructions I don't think that the existence of connecting flights (although there are such flights in Prague) should be one of the main criteria for the existence of the article. When I see foreigners here fumbling about how to buy a bus ticket or which bus to take, then I think the article makes sense even if there is nothing in the Buy section (by the way - how many arrivals want to buy something other than food and drink at the airport?). However, I plan to add more to the Buy and Eat and Drink section. Packa (talk) 10:48, 3 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I added a few lines at Wikivoyage_talk:Airport_Expedition#Guidelines_as_to_when_an_airport_deserves_an_article trying to start a discussion of whether the criteria need to change so airports like this one would clearly be allowed rather than being possible exceptions to the general policy.
