Merge proposal
[edit]@SelfieCity tagged this article for merge, but did not start a discussion, so I'm staring it now. -- Nelson Ricardo 2500 (talk) 04:15, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: This state has almost 10 million people. I believe the article should be converted to a region and allowed to grow. (Are our Nigerian contributors still around?) --Nelson Ricardo 2500 (talk) 04:17, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per Nelson. If we're going that path, all Australian states would need to be merged. (largest only has 8.2 mi) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:37, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- It’s currently a city article. The problem is that we very likely don’t have enough destinations in Zamfara State to make it a region article yet. Alternatively, it could be made an extraregion article, but still, the moving of listings to the city article constitutes at least a partial article merge. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 10:37, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- I would turn Zamfara into a rural area article and merge Gusau in. There are only two listings in Gusau that are not already in the Zamfaea article. The Zamfara article has only two listings that are not in Gusau. Let's keep the information in one place until there is enough information about places outside of Gusau to warrant creating articles for them. Ground Zero (talk) 11:54, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- How is a state of 10 million people a rural area? Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:24, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- What is the point of a separate city article when it is almost all covered in the state article? At this point, almost everything we tell readers about the state is in one city. And then we repeat a lot of that in the state article. It would be more useful to have all of the information in one place, call it what you will. Ground Zero (talk) 16:49, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- I think an article for an entire state of 10 million has to be a region article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:38, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- It isn't actually about the state, though, when you look at the listings. Maybe the state article should be merged into the city article with two "further afield" listings. Ground Zero (talk) 18:12, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- True. That works. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 19:50, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- Did there use to be "further afield" listings? No such phrasing is used now. It looks like an article for the state to me. Is there another article that is more evidently about the state? I think maybe we should ask on the Nigeria cafe for help in coverage of this state. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:55, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'm going to oppose the merge proposal. It would make no sense to redirect an article for a state to an article for a city. What should be done is "movetocity"! Then if what's left is a bare-bones article, if worst came to worst, we could add some content from w:Zamfara State and do a little online research. "Zamfara City" does not exist, so this needs to be a state (region) article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:19, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- It turns out that we have two city articles in the state, so a merger does not make sense. I am moving the Gusau listings out of this article to the city article. Ground Zero (talk) 13:33, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- Terrific! Thanks for taking care of that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:39, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
