Santa Fe article

[edit]

I don't see any problem with the Santa Fe article. By "break(ing) somewhere in the 'Museums' section", do you mean the browser loads to the museums section and then stops? My best guess there is that your browser is failing to load the page fully. I don't know how you could fix this. (WT-en) PerryPlanet 21:50, 19 February 2008 (EST)

MoS issue with New Mexico "Eat" listings...

[edit]

Hey Bill. Listen, User:(WT-en) Texugo and I have been having a discussion about the Eat listings on the Albuquerque page. He's arguing that by our MoS standards, we shouldn't split local cuisine up from non-local cuisine ("New Mexican" vs "Other"), otherwise we'd have to do that to just about every article we have on Wikivoyage (Japanese articles with Japanese food versus Other, etc.).

Then I noticed that Santa Fe and Los Alamos also have this layout. So I wanted to get your opinion on the issue, seeing as you've been the main contributor to these articles. (WT-en) PerryPlanet 20:29, 30 March 2008 (EDT)

Why are you doing this?

[edit]

Why are you helping (WT-en) Kitty revert my edits? --(WT-en) Red Forman 23:35, 30 May 2008 (EDT)

I'm trying to help out, Mr. Forman! [to Bill] Can you please block Red before he vandalizes more pages? --(WT-en) Kitty Forman 00:01, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

Someone tell her to shut-up! --(WT-en) Red Forman 00:09, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

protecting Discover template

[edit]

Thanks for the warning. I don't want to block Jani's bot, but we're very concerned about vandalism on the templates on the home page. Judging by the quickness of your response, though, perhaps we can leave it to the admins to be vigilant. (WT-en) JuCo 13:49, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

I removed protection. Bill, is there a way to get notified when templates are changed? (WT-en) JuCo 14:17, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
Great news. I'm glad that loop hole is closed and, like you say, if it doesn't work, we'll keep thinking. Thanks for keeping me updated! (WT-en) JuCo 15:36, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Admin nomination

[edit]

Hey, I just nominated User:(WT-en) LtPowers for sysop status. I'd appreciate it if you would comment here. Thanks! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 19:03, 17 August 2008 (EDT)

Colorado regions

[edit]
very rough & copyrighted draft

Hey Bill, I noticed you led the charge on the Colorado regions organization, and I had a question. As the boundaries are currently defined, there is a "gap" (in black) between Southwestern Colorado and Northwestern Colorado, since I-70 (the northwest's southern border) slices 5 counties in half that are not included in the southwestern list of counties. Is it fair to include the southern half of those counties in the southwest of the state? If this isn't clear, I'll be uploading a map soon in which I do include those "half counties" in the southwestern region. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:17, 27 August 2008 (EDT)

By the way, that would put Aspen in the southwest, which may not be so great. Another option would be to take out the I-70 as southern border (except vis-a-vis South Central Colorado), and just let the region go down to the Southwestern Counties. What do you think? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:20, 27 August 2008 (EDT)
One last question (and feel free to move this discussion to Talk:Colorado if you like): don't the Front Range and Denver area overlap? Certainly Jefferson County would. Should we treat the Denver Area as a sub-region of the Front Range? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:23, 27 August 2008 (EDT)

GUPI

[edit]

Excellent abbreviation! What if we make it more widely used in VFD page? :-) --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 17:15, 24 October 2008 (EDT)

vfd's

[edit]

Thanks for clearing those out, I wanted to myself, but was too wrapped up in the arguments. I'm not sure what we can do about it, but all of these ones that keep coming up as "merge and redirect" never actually get merged before the vfd ends. Not sure what we can do about that though (WT-en) cacahuate talk 18:46, 24 October 2008 (EDT)

Insert a {{merge|into}} notice (or something similar, stating there's consensus on merge) into the vfd'ed page, and leave it to be merged some day by a volunteer? --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 16:53, 25 October 2008 (EDT)
Seems reasonable, and I'd like to have done that if there was a consensus to merge the Thailand articles. However, I didn't see any such consensus in those cases. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 17:48, 25 October 2008 (EDT)
The only thing with a merge template is that the article will likely sit there for ages, and essentially have been kept instead of deleted. Maybe some sort of time frame can be set to merge it before it's deleted. Like 14 days from end of vfd or something (WT-en) cacahuate talk 18:17, 25 October 2008 (EDT)
I like the timeframe idea: if anyone care of preserving useful content, this is a good motivator to do so. As for "no consensus": has this approach seriously discussed before, somewhere? --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 07:24, 26 October 2008 (EDT)

Cityguide template

[edit]

Hey Bill, why did you remove the cityguide template from Template:Smallcity? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 13:07, 9 November 2008 (EST)

Colorado's other Destinations

[edit]

Hi Bill, You are the resident expert on all things in the Four Corners states, so I would appreciate your feedback on reorganzing Colorado's Other Destinations section. Please take a look at my post on the Talk Page. Thanks! (WT-en) WineCountryInn 14:11, 15 January 2009 (EST)

Kudos

[edit]

Hey Bill - many thanks for your diligence in keeping the VFD page in order. Between that page and the "Discover" blurbs I think you've single-handedly kept two major sections of the site running over the past few months, and lest your good deeds go unnoticed I figured I'd drop a thank you here. Much appreciated! -- (WT-en) Ryan (talk) 17:33, 4 March 2009 (EST)

Ditto, things would clearly fall apart without your work. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 23:02, 4 March 2009 (EST)

South Pole

[edit]

I had moved the South Pole into the slush pile, because it doesn't have support, it's not at the required status level, and there haven't been any real significant changes made to the page to warrant keeping it. The nominations are a bit cluttered, and this one seemed like a dead-end nomination, but if you think it has potential, that's fine. It would definitely be an interesting feature. Discover Category

[edit]

I had added entries to the top and middle in an attempt to eliminate the Japanese promince, which was mentioned on the talk page. Also, because Okayama is about to become a DotM, I was trying to prevent the Japanese entries from appearing so much in August. A few more entries could probably be used to diversify the Japanese entries towards the bottom, but I will certainly add to the bottom once they are more dispersed. By no means was I trying to promote my own additions to the page over those of other contributors. I appologize if it seemed that way. (WT-en) ChubbyWimbus 00:12, 30 July 2009 (EDT)

santa fe rentals

[edit]

The B&B listing at least seems okay, I just had to format it. I took out the vacation rentals listing, not nessecairily because they're not allowed, but because it's actually a page of the B&B site.

Other than going to NYC over a month ago and coming back home from Pittsburgh, haven't gotten around too much in a while, what with classes the past few weeks and all. But I do intend to go to Zozobra tonight! (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 14:50, 10 September 2009 (EDT)

Southwestern Colorado regions

[edit]

Hey Bill, we're thinking of creating subregions for Southwestern Colorado. I proposed a few, but as you likely remember, my knowledge of Colorado's travel geography is a little shallow. It would be great if you could take a look over that discussion and lend your thoughts! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 00:08, 14 November 2009 (EST)

Garduno's

[edit]

Yeah, the other Garduno's are still open. There was a big tax-evasion incident, but the chain is still alive. (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 15:26, 24 November 2009 (EST)

New to Wiki editing. Interested in helping Los ALamos New Mexico tourism.

[edit]

Hi Bill, I am new to working with wikis. I live in Los Alamos, and work at LANL (theoretical biology, vaccine design) , and am a member of the board of directors of the local nonprofit ski area . Although the ski area is a nonprofit organization, it needs to make enough money to support the operation of the lifts, snowmaking, snow grooming, lodge, etc. The ski area is a year-round resource for the Los Alamos community. help needed

[edit]

Hi Billonthehill, I forgot my login information. Is it possible for you to help me out or point me in the right direction? I just looked for admins and you were first on the list. Must be your lucky day... Anyway, I would appreciate the help.

Account migration

[edit]

Hi Bill - if you'd like to you can request that your old contributions be migrated to this new account using Wikivoyage:User account migration. Provided you can also confirm that this account is the same as your old account (via email or a web link) then I can also restore your admin rights. -- Ryan (talk) 23:44, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK, I'll send you an e-mail. I probably won't admin often after the startup, but clearly, right now it's handy to have people with the tools... -- Bill-on-the-Hill (talk) 01:08, 13 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Migration complete. -- Ryan (talk) 15:55, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

A hearty welcome back from me—it will be great to have you around for the busy launch ahead in particular, but I certainly hope you will stay around afterwards! --Peter Talk 18:05, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Administrator status (Official Notice)

[edit]
A similar message was also sent via e-mail.

Thanks for your service as a Wikivoyage administrator. As you may be aware, our Wikivoyage:Administrators policy indicates that administrators who have not edited on the English Wikivoyage in over two years should have their administrator flags removed. This is for account security purposes, not a reflection of a loss of trust or any disappointment.

As such, we will be removing your administrator flag on December 1, 2015. Should you wish to retain your status, simply come on back and make an edit! That resets the clock. And if you ever decide to return to Wikivoyage as an active editor, your administrator flag can be restored by request.

If you have any questions or concerns, let me know.

-- Powers (talk) 19:25, 16 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back!

[edit]

I suspect the above notice is what brought you out of hiding - it's nice to see a couple of edits in the recent changes list from you again. Hope all is well! -- Ryan (talk) 23:54, 16 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. As I e-mailed LtP, I didn't think I really had much left to do here, but we're in the process of moving to an area that's not well covered, so why not? Glad to see things are running well. -- Bill-on-the-Hill (talk) 00:22, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
