Welcome back

[edit]

Saw in recent changes that you made a couple edits today after a 2-year break. Merry Christmas! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:29, 25 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Suches

[edit]

The disambiguation, if it were needed, would be Suches (Georgia), but since there is no other place by that name that has an article on this site, there should be no disambiguation in the article's name. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:05, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ikan Kekek, cheers for letting me know. Rubbish computer (Talk: Contribs) 13:06, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing. Now, whether there should be an article about this place is another question... Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:07, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

ES on Talk:Buddhism

[edit]

Hey there, if possible, don't use an edit summary when reverting Ljupco. It only makes you a target for him. It's different if you're already his hated few like Ikan, Antandrus or myself, where edit summaries end up getting me off Wikimedia and onto fake emails. (The main thing that keeps him out of here is my talk page protection). It's quite sad that his mental health condition causes to inflict hate on such people, but there's nothing we can do here, until he goes back to jail again. (he went to jail for 3 years for electrical harassment, including that of public figures). Thanks! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 22:56, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

You can't expect everyone to recognize the practices of particular vandals. User:Rubbish computer, thanks for helping out! If you get abusive email, you can filter it to spam. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:46, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
No worries, this person hasn't emailed me also. Rubbish computer (Talk: Contribs) 23:49, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Probably not a bad idea to disable emails from new users. Oh to Ikan, and I thought RC might know because I see them in Recent Changes in Wikibooks at times (he's so active there that there's about 15 IPs automatically blocked a day). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:54, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi SHB2000, I've disabled emails from new users a while back, more as a precaution than anything. Rubbish computer (Talk: Contribs) 23:56, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, there's not really a good reason for newbies to email you unless you're something like a steward or a global sysop. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:58, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't see an issue with that edit summary. Probably best not to talk too much about the personal life of any wiki user as even vandals have some right to privacy. It becomes like outing and certainly issues such as mental health of people shouldn't be talked about publicly, IMHO. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions)
I wouldn't call it outing though, and I've been accused of that before, but @Leaderboard: defended my case and that it was not outing. The info I've found is already public, and trying to constrain someone's mental health condition would rather seem to whoever is attacked that this is picking on. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:16, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's at best distasteful to repeatedly mention. Also, the principle of WV:Deny recognition is very visibly flouted every time you post this kind of talk page message. If people post an edit summary, might you consider leaving well enough alone? Delete the visibility of the edits if you like. Quietly. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:26, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
You can never truly follow that principle. If you are rev delling that edit, you are recognising that it itself is disruptive, and if you get the loophole with that principle, it is why I take the approach on other wikis, which is to educate users about him, and instead of rather quietly leaving him harassing users, and getting legal threats from him, this leaves everyone confused. Remember, he isn't the ordinary vandal. He's not an attention seeking one. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:35, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think this is counterproductive. I guess we need to have a discussion on Wikivoyage talk:How to handle unwanted edits. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:38, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question

[edit]

Hi there, I wonder if you could help me with something ? on this site the description of Brighton is perfect but I’m wondering if you can help change the Wikipedia version ? All descriptions state Brighton as a seaside resort ( which it is) but this needs to be changed to either city or city of Brighton and Hove. This could be added as a citation https://www.visitbrighton.com/On the lead description it states “ Brighton is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the city of Brighton and Hove. But I feel this would be correct . “Brighton is a seaside resort and formally known as the city of Brighton and Hove. With this citation added on formally https://www.kingseducation.com/kings-life/10-fun-facts-about-brighton#:~:text=An%20important%20first%20fact%20is,two%20to%20be%20separate%20towns. I emailed the mayor of Brighton and have emails backs from the mayor and Brighton comms department in support of what I am saying. I have sent your email to our Comms department who will be able to help. Thank you for getting it right. Wikipedia often gets it wrong so it's good if someone who cares edits the pages.

Kindest regards

Minna

This has been an ongoing issue for many years, we used to regularly go in and edit the page but every time we did someone else would then edit it back to say resort or town. Although thankfully the Wikipedia page retains both of the external links I added to the council website and to our official tourism site: www.visitbrighton.com (http://www.visitbrighton.com/).   As our resources are stretched instead of undertaking the Sisyphean task of updating Wikipedia, we focus on optimising the content of our website to ensure that we appear as the top result for Brighton-related searches. Please see below a screenshot of the search results for ‘Brighton’ on Google which shows that our VisitBrighton website appears before the Wikipedia entry - the majority of people use Google for online searches rather than Bing (84% Google / 9% Bing).   Thank you, Charlotte

Sorry ignore this, I think it’ll be better if I can do it when my ban is done. 78.86.32.224 19:28, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Reversion at Talk:Guerneville

[edit]

Thanks very much for your help! However, User:John Broughton is a constructive, indeed productive editor, and those listings are put there as a placeholder for possible further work by him, not in order to tout.

All the best,

Hey no worries, sorry about that Ikan Kekek John Broughton Alextejthompson (Ping me or leave a message on my talk page) 18:51, 22 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
