[edit]Hello, Sumone10154! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.
Thanks for all of the routebox cleanups and fixes! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 13:09, 5 January 2011 (EST)
- Welcome from me as well. Just a tip, that [[Hamilton (Ontario)|]] is a shortcut for [[Hamilton (Ontario)|Hamilton]]. --(WT-en) inas 21:19, 5 January 2011 (EST)
- I'd like to add a thank you note as well, for all your hard work on the routeboxes and the disambiguation pages! (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 21:36, 5 January 2011 (EST)
Discussions
[edit]You've been busy! I see you've left a number of talk page comments that don't always get answered right away. Be aware that often people read them but may wait until someone more knowledgeable comes along to answer (for example Talk:Hawaii#Outline?). If you have a question that you really want answered and a day goes by without comment, feel free to put it back on the Special:RecentChanges list by making a whitespace or other minimal edit with the summary "*bump*" (example) and people will likely give it further attention. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 15:14, 20 January 2011 (EST)
- Thanks for letting me know! :) (WT-en) Sumone10154 00:19, 21 January 2011 (EST)
I was advised elsewhere to remove the climate section of the Gabrovo entry because climate is covered by the entry on Bulgaria. However, I have no strong feelings about this issue. (WT-en) RobertSullivan1973
- I think it's fine to keep the climate section for a city; we do that for many other cities (such as Dublin or Milwaukee), and I don't know about Bulgaria, but different cities may have different climates. (WT-en) –sumone10154 12:08, 7 February 2011 (EST)

Routebox expedition
[edit]I gotta say, I like the idea of an expedition. Although frankly, my personal life is pretty busy at the moment, so I can't really dedicate much time to it at the moment. But I still like the idea...It might be good to see if you can get a couple more members to commit to a Routebox expedition; then we could have the critical mass we need to properly set one up and maintain it. (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 15:26, 23 March 2011 (EDT)
I-87
[edit]Re: this edit, I should point out that I-787 doesn't go through Troy either. =) Anyway, the point of routeboxes is not to provide a geographically accurate portrait of exactly which towns a highway passes through, but rather to get people to other destinations along the route. Troy is in the I-87 corridor, even if it is several miles away. Maybe a compromise and say "Troy via I-787" instead of removing it entirely? (WT-en) LtPowers 08:21, 1 April 2011 (EDT)
Template changes
[edit]A quick request - when making template changes, can you make sure to use the "Summary" box or the template's talk page to explain the change you're trying to make? Some of the templates you've changed are used in a LOT of places, so anything that can be done to make it clear what the expected result of a given change should be would be hugely helpful. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 19:12, 19 April 2011 (EDT)
- Ok, I'll do that. (WT-en) –sumone10154 19:13, 19 April 2011 (EDT)
Template:Unsigned
[edit]Hi, Sumone: Why did you remove part of the instructions for Template:Unsigned? LtPowers (talk) 20:50, 4 October 2012 (CEST)
- Sorry, I made a mistake and I think I read it wrong. I've corrected it now, thanks for letting me know. –sumone10154(talk) 21:00, 4 October 2012 (CEST)
Template:Soft redirect
[edit]Hi, Sumone; what's your intent with Template:Soft redirect? Per policy, new templates should generally be approved first before creating and using them. LtPowers (talk) 00:54, 6 October 2012 (CEST)
- They're for creating redirects to other wikis when a normal redirect should not be used (for example at Wikivoyage:How to upload files). I didn't think it would be controversial, which is why I didn't discuss before creating. –sumone10154(talk) 03:42, 6 October 2012 (CEST)
- Ok then. –sumone10154(talk) 19:49, 6 October 2012 (CEST)
Talk page reversions
[edit]Reverting off-topic insults from talk pages is considered acceptable, even if they're someone else's comment - it's covered in the last section of Wikivoyage:Using talk pages. — D. Guillaume (talk) 05:08, 7 October 2012 (CEST)
- Ok, sorry I didn't know what the situation was at the time. Feel free to revert back. –sumone10154(talk) 06:49, 7 October 2012 (CEST)
Thank you!
[edit]For the welcome, and I went ahead and fixed the red link in the Wikipedian template too. ;-) Thehelpfulone 00:50, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Double Redirects
[edit]I did some edits on your sandbox pages yesterday wiping the pages because they had redirects pointing to the same page that created Double Redirects. I would like to apologize as I should not have edited your user pages to fix this issue. But I should have just pointed out the issue to you. Feel free to revert my edits if you were working on something. Again, sorry if I messed up something you that you were working and thank you for all the work you do on Wikivoyage. - Xltel (talk) 16:53, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- No, that's fine. Those pages got changed to redirects in error after my WT account got merged here. They were originally sandbox pages, but they aren't needed anymore. Thanks for cleaning up Special:DoubleRedirects! –sumone10154(talk) 22:22, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Question from a french wikitraveller
[edit]Hi Sumone10154,
My name is Christian (ChristianT) and i'm from the francophone wikipedia. I was waiting for this project since some time and now it is launched. There's not a lot of activities on the french wikivoyage, a lot less than on the english one, and that fact as some drawback. Some questions on the travellers pub get unanswered for long time. The page for deletion is also not very often patrolled. The problem that for me seems the more important is the absence of a admin that do a daily checkup. Maybe Yann is very busy right now but anyway we cannot do with only one active admin. I'm not admin on any wikimedia project right now. The project where i've the most contribution and the most experience is wp:fr where i edit since may 2010. I've never been blocked since my beginning on wikimedia project. Do you think that i'm trustable enough to request the admin tools (maybe just on a temporary base). You can respond to me here or on my french wikivoyage talkpage — . Thanks in advance. -- ChristianT (talk) 21:06, 20 November 2012 (UTC).
- Thanks for your confidence (merci de ta confiance). When the communauty will be more active, i will go for a more formal nomination process and ask for a confirmation of my status. In the meantime i used the tools today to delete category that a user added on the mainspace. Can you just look in the suppression log and verify if i have done Ok. I added a explanation on the travellers pub about not creating category in the mainspace... Thanks in advance. -- ChristianT (talk) 16:59, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
NYC subway routeboxes

Template:Delete
[edit]Please consider reverting your redirect of Template:Delete to Template:Speedy and at most do the redirect the other way around, as Template:Delete allows for arguments to be passed to it, which is important for clarity cross-wiki compatibility and is more appropriately coded (for exmaple, it's not clumsily included into the speedy deletion category). Snowolf How can I help? 22:45, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll changed it to redirect the other way around. –sumone10154(talk) 02:47, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
- I don't agree with this change. The Speedy template better fits with the other templates; see Wikivoyage:Template_index#Article notices. If you'd like the template to have arguments in it, then you should build it into the template instead of making it redirect to an old template. --Globe-trotter (talk) 12:46, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
- The template needs arguments for cross-wiki tagging. That is, swmt members and other wikimedians use tools that go
{{delete|argument}}
to speed up such requests. With over 700 wikis to deal with, it is impossible to code a tool that can deal with thousands of different templates. That doesn't mean that more specific templates shouldn't be encouraged, just that there should be an option left for a general one. I am confused as to why you say "an old template" regarding the standard deletion template, I'm not sure I get it. The so-called "old template" is significantly better coded than the speedy template. Snowolf How can I help? 21:06, 27 November 2012 (UTC)- I also think it would be nice to have the template match the style of the others. I've copied Template:Speedy to Template:Delete but added the arguments and fixed the self-inclusion into the deletion category, is that ok? –sumone10154(talk) 06:26, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

User categories
[edit]What's this? LtPowers (talk) 20:44, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- On all Wikimedia projects, categories are used to sort users by language. They're also used in our Babel extension, so I don't see why we shouldn't add them to our regular Babel template. –sumone10154(talk) 18:46, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- Because we don't really use categories here. We never have, except for a few minor cases and the recent addition of them to policy pages. Any proposal to being doing so for User space ought to be discussed first. LtPowers (talk) 19:04, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Talk pages
[edit]Just a heads up, we generally keep talk pages around even after their mainspace page has been deleted. Occasionally they are useful for finding past precedents or useful things someone said. And there's no harm in keeping them. --Peter Talk 04:05, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks for letting me know. Maybe we should make this clear on Wikivoyage:Deletion policy, since Wikipedia's policy is different. –sumone10154(talk) 04:08, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Warningbox
[edit]Hi, Sumone. Why did you change the Warningbox on Walt Disney World to a Cautionbox? Warningbox is explicitly designed for actual dangers to life and limb, whereas Cautionbox specifically says it's not for "proper life-threatening dangers". LtPowers (talk) 18:15, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, I guess I didn't read it carefully (motion sickness and a height restriction aren't life threatening, but the other warnings are). I've reverted my changes. –sumone10154(talk) 19:24, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Other gadgets
[edit]Hi, I'm an admin of it.wikivoyage. I saw you here the work is progressing well. On it.wikivoyage instead we are very few. I think the gadgets we use on it.wikivoyage may be useful to you. They are all already translated into English including their description. If you are interested let me know. Hello and happy new year! Emanuele Raoli (talk) 03:15, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- All gadgets of it.wikiovoyage have all a description in English and French. :) From this page you can export the description in english to en.wikivoyage. But, (on it.wikiovyage) if you change your interface's language into French you can export all the gadgtes in French too. Cheers! Raoli (talk) 19:38, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Salting pages
[edit]How do you prevent page creation? --Peter Talk 20:35, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Corales Golf Course
[edit]Sumone, Why did you delete the Corales Golf Course page I created?.I am trying to expand the Punta Cana region information. Pukit (talk) 19:19, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh I got it. It has to be in the destinations page and not standalone as it is a private property (ie Hotel). How did you become aware of it so fast? I am new to this, and having fun adding information. Pukit (talk) 19:27, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, that is correct. Also take a look at WV:Don't tout; we try to avoid flowery promotional language, to avoid becoming like an advertising brochure.
- The page Recent changes, linked in the sidebar, shows the most recent edits on the wiki, which is how I saw your page. Thanks for contributing, and welcome to Wikivoyage! –sumone10154(talk) 19:36, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Administrator status (Official Notice)
[edit]Thanks for your service as a Wikivoyage administrator. As you may be aware, our Wikivoyage:Administrators policy indicates that administrators who have not edited on the English Wikivoyage in over two years should have their administrator flags removed. This is for account security purposes, not a reflection of a loss of trust or any disappointment.
As such, we will be removing your administrator flag on February 16, 2022. Should you wish to retain your status, simply come on back and make an edit! That resets the clock. And if you ever decide to return to Wikivoyage as an active editor, your administrator flag can be restored by request.
If you have any questions or concerns, let me know.
Your removal is along with several other admins as discussed here.
--SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:13, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
- Your status has been changed to autopatroller. If you'd like to resume work as an admin any time, just let us know and we'll be happy to restore your admin flags. Either way, I hope you're having a wonderful life! Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:10, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
