Hello Timmylegend! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:

It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!

Dagbani Wikimedia[edit]

The dog2 (talk) 23:08, 4 January 2021 (UTC) Hello User: Timmylegend, I have been directed by ThunderingTyphoons!, to contact you in connection with your impending project on wikivoyage. I learned you are in the middle of organising a group of mainly Nigerian Wikimedians in expanding Wikivoyage's coverage of African destinations, so I am contacting you as a co-founder of Dagbani Wikimedia user group from Ghana to see if there may be a way for the two groups to work together, even if we end up working on different articles. Dagbani Wikimedia is a Ghanaian wikipedia user group in incubator. The community has many active contributors who are learning and working on articles with all seriousness. Wikivoyage is one of the new things we are interested in working on and wish to rely on you to carry us along. Find below the Dagbani wikipedia link;https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/dag/Sol%C9%94%C9%A3u Alhassan Mohammed Awal (talk) 11:08, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alhassan Mohammed Awal, This is great and I'm sure there would be ways for us to collaborate and work together on improving Wikivoyage coverage of African destinations. The project starts mid-May, which is about a month away. Perhaps, we could talk via email and see how we can move this discussion forward. Kind regards. An award for you![edit]

The Nigerian Barncompass
For initiating the Nigeria Expedition which has led to a lot of improvements in our Nigerian coverage both here and on the English Wikipedia. All the best! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 00:18, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatroller[edit]

Hey there, I've made you an autopatroller which means you no longer have to have your edits patrolled. Since you initiated the Nigeria expedition, I've also got to say, the coverage of Nigeria on both Wikivoyage and Wikipedia (particularly the south west and the area around Ilorin) is looking so much better. Cheers, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:23, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you SHB2000. Timmylegend (talk) 10:46, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also note you are a patroller as well, so that means you can also mark other non-autopatrolled user's edits as patrolled, considering you do a fair bit of monitoring. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:49, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

page views[edit]

It was great talking to you today. There was one question that we didnt address:

"it could be great if there's a tool to access the page views for articles on Nigerian destinations"

If you look under "Tools" at the left of the Wikivoyage screen, you will see "Page information ". Click on that to see "Page views in the past 30 days". Regards, Ground Zero (talk) 00:51, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ground Zero, Thank you for sharing, it was really great meeting and discussing with you, we learnt a lot. Timmylegend (talk) 10:46, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template editor[edit]

Would you like to be a template editor. The only reason why I'm asking is since if any page is protected due to edit warring, we only protect it up to Template editors and admins, which means you may not be able to edit it. You don't have to be editing templates though. I was a template editor for about three months from April to last Friday (before I became a sysop), but didn't edit too much templates. Let me know if you want the flag. Cheers, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:50, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SHB2000, thanks for this. I'm interested, however is there a place I can read up on all the rights (autopatrol, patrol, template editor..)Timmylegend (talk) 08:28, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For autopatroller rights, read Wikivoyage:Autopatrollers, for patrollers, read Wikivoyage:Patrollers and for template editor, read Wikivoyage:Template editors. Hope that helps! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:48, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've also given you template editor rights now. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:50, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nollywood tourism[edit]

I recently heard about this being the world's second largest film industry just after Hollywood. We have an article about Bollywood tourism and I was wondering if there are just enough sites in Nigeria for a traveller to experience some Nollywood culture for there to be a Nollywood tourism article? While films aren't my cup of tea here, I'm sure there's plenty of other people here who are fans of the film industry who may be interested here. Thanks! Boko Haram terrorist group[edit]

On the Nigeria page, the warning box states the following:

Travel Warning WARNING: There is a threat of terrorism in northeast Nigeria; the extremist group Boko Haram is based in this area. The US State Department and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against travel to this area, while Global Affairs Canada recommends against non-essential travel to Nigeria (other than Abuja, Calabar and Lagos) because of the risks of terrorism, and recommends practising special health precautions because of the risk of contracting malaria.
Government travel advisories
(Information last updated 29 Mar 2021)

The box is from March, and I was wondering whether it is still relevant as a whole nation, or would it just be worth to put it in the North East Nigeria page? I'm not too sure about it, but you'd know a lot more about it (although that doesn't really affect Ilorin, Lagos or Abuja), should it be kept or removed?

Cheers, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:57, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SHB2000, while the threat of Boko Haram terrorist group has been limited to the North east in recent times and the frequency of attacks have reduced, they still provide a very important guide to travellers who would be coming to Nigeria. However, maybe there could be another way of passing across this information instead of the box. Timmylegend (talk) 21:25, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If I can recall correctly, I don't think we have any alternative templates to show warnings apart from this, {{COVID-19 box}} and {{cautionbox}}. But thanks for the update though. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:11, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We can put the information in the "stay safe" section if you think a warningbox is too much given the threat. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 00:18, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Since it's no longer a nationwide problem, it should only really be put in the North East Nigeria page. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:23, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
