Hello, Travelwriter1000! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. Page banners Wikidata[edit]

Thanks for adding a pagebanner! Pagebanners need to be added to Wikidata. Please see d:Q173985 or category page for more information. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:50, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have just tried doing that, but it was pretty confusing and time intensive :/ Can you check Multan to see whether I did it correctly? Travelwriter1000 (talk) 18:20, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can't seem to publish the change on Wikidata? Travelwriter1000 (talk) 18:25, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, I figured it out. Travelwriter1000 (talk) 18:57, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is confusing the first time, but if you do it a few times each new banner should take only a minute or two. It’s important to transfer the banner to other language versions of the same article. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:19, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pagebanners and photos[edit]

First, thanks very much for adding them, especially the pagebanners! When you add photos, though, I think it's much more useful to include captions than to set sizes. The default thumbnail size is usually fine. Here's an example of how to add a caption.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:07, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I saw you removed a size from one. It winds up displaying so small that I can't really make out the subject at the default setting. I'll try and come up with captions whenever possible. Travelwriter1000 (talk) 20:11, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If it's really important to enlarge the photo, you can, but someone else might restore it to the default size. You can always discuss individual cases on the relevant article's talk pages if need be. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:43, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing about pagebanners: If you want to substitute one for an existing one, the normal procedure is to post thumbnails of both on the article's talk page and get votes from a few people. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:35, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. I think I replaced just one for quality reasons, but all the others were replacing duplicate banners (used lazily on multiple articles). Travelwriter1000 (talk) 22:31, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I don't think it'll be controversial at all. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:57, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Per my comment above: When you'd like to substitute a new pagebanner for an existing one, as you did in the Boyacá (department) article, please make a proposal on the article's talk page with thumbnails of the existing pagebanner and the one you want to change to, preferably with your own explanation of why you prefer the new banner, and see what consensus develops; don't change the banner unilaterally. Thanks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:00, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I get what you're saying, but I'm replacing lower quality work with better quality work, i.e., improving pages, which is the point of wiki editing, right? If I was consistently making things worse or being sloppy, I would understand vetting my contributions, but is that the case? I'm pretty OCD about making things look nicer. Banner editing is really time consuming, so I prefer not to bog myself down anymore than I already am :/ And in all likelihood I'll forget about the talk page and never actually make the improvement... But anyway, I did what you asked. Travelwriter1000 (talk) 20:13, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can always make the replacement if you forget. I didn't think the improvement was so obvious no proposal and consensus were needed, because I like the composition of the existing banner. You made a good argument for the new banner on the talk page, so I'm good with it now but suggest we wait at least a day or two before making the change.
