Hello, Walkden861! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.--ϒpsilon (talk) 19:27, 19 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! I'm glad you've decided to join our project. I think you'll find things pretty relaxed around here. Don't be afraid to learn by trial-and-error. That's how most new contributors learn things. There is a "recent changes patrol", so if you make mistakes, more experienced editors will likely fix them pretty quickly, and you'll soon see what works and what doesn't. But it is a good idea to check out the links that Ypsilon provided. They will get you off to a good start. I'm looking forward to seeing your contributions. Walkden and Worsley

Hi, I have proposed merging these articles into Salford which currently has points of interest of the town suburbs. I think the Salford article should be improved and expanded first. If it starts to get too big and complex then we can split and recreate these pages. --Traveler100 (talk) 07:20, 24 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

New here, need some help!

Swept in from the pub

Well, not that new.... I last edited as an IP address around late 2005 on Wikipedia (en.wikipedia). I'm going to try and add smaller towns (medium-size ones like Prestwich but how can I do so while keeping within policy?

Any help's appreciated. --Walkden861 (talk) 19:29, 19 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Prestwich is currently a redirect to Manchester/North, which has two listings for Prestwich. I would suggest that you start by expanding Manchester/North. The main Manchester article is at guide standard and has been featured on the Main Page, and some of the inner district articles are in good shape - if you want example of how to do things - look at Manchester/Victoria-Shopping District. (edit conflict) Thanks for your efforts! If you're worried about where to draw the line between places that are or aren't large or prominent enough to deserve their own articles, the place to start is Wikivoyage:What is an article? Since Prestwich is a suburb of Manchester, you might want to pay special attention to the final paragraph of wiaa#What does get its own article? about the permissibility in many cases of lumping neighboring small towns together in ways that make sense from the traveller's perspective - editors, especially those native to or familiar with the area at issue, have broad latitude in deciding for themselves how best to do that. Finally, the general overarching rule of thumb here is "plunge forward" - as at Wikipedia, there's very little permanent damage that can be done on this site, and other editors (self included) will generally be happy to help with any questions you may have. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 20:51, 19 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I saw you use that term in an edit summary. We have a slightly different approach to opinion here. Ours is called WV:Be fair. In a nutshell if something's overpriced, we should tell our readers that. Happy editing! Hobbitschuster (talk) 12:29, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
