I created this earlier & it was promptly deleted by User:Traveler100. I think it should be restored.

  • Wikivoyage:Deletion_policy#Redirects "As a general rule redirection pages should not be deleted."
  • Wikivoyage:What is an article? "If an attraction or an event is really famous, and travellers may not know the city or region it is in, then create an article with the attraction name as title, but make it a redirect to the appropriate destination article, and put the actual description of the attraction in the destination article. For example, Taj Mahal redirects to Agra and Burning Man redirects to Black Rock City."

At least among security professionals and war buffs, w:Bletchley Park is quite famous, one of the best-known sites of World War II. It would be near the top of my list of places to visit when I am next in the UK. I think that, just as far more people know the name "Taj Mahal" than know where it is located, more people know "Bletchley Park" than know its location. As I see it, the redirect is entirely appropriate.

There is also a redirect at Bletchley, and there is a village of that name with a railway station (w:Bletchley), but it is far less known than Bletchley Park. Pashley (talk) 09:40, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:49, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My reasoning. There are many attractions that are equally famous, applying this logic globally would create a large number of redirect pages that I feel would clog up the auto dynamic response of the search field while you are typing. Also do not feel it is required as Bletchley exists as a redirect (in fact I created it) so see no reason for a second entry and if you execute a search Milton Keynes comes top of the search results. --Traveler100 (talk) 10:10, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect for all your maintenance work, deleting this redirect on sight and without any discussion was wrong, imho, and against both policy and common courtesy towards another respected editor. If you personally feel redirects to famous places clog the auto dynamic response, the right approach would be to put the policy up for discussion, not just delete redirects at your personal discretion. In this particular case, I also agree with Pashley and Ikan Kekek that Bletchley Park is famous enough to actively warrant a redirect. Let's restore it. The same sort of thing has happened to several other users as well. For example, I created a redirect from "Snow" to "Snow safety" and it was deleted. Similar thing is the case at User_talk:Traveler100#Why_delete_"places_to_visit"_redirect?. Of course, overwhelming numbers of redirects is different, but I think we have to be careful about simply deleting redirects without consensus at all. I have undeleted the redirect per talk page. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 03:40, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
