Sleep "listings" with no location

[edit]

Most of the sleep listings lack any location. I almost moved several of them over here per the apartment listing policy, but really, a hotel listing that's just a name and URL is no better than a serviced apartment listing like that. If you'd like to put in locations and contact info, please do. Otherwise, the "listings" are just a link farm, at best. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:51, 22 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Excessive subdivision?

[edit]

First of all I know next to nothing about the island, so I may be wrong. But is it really necessary to subdivide this into five region articles? I mean yes, you certainly could put a dot on the map for every settlement, but are they actually worth notice? We could also decide to list every last 1950s Lutheran church in rural Sauerland as an attraction under "See" but do we have to? Again, I am not saying this is the case here, but I wanted raise that issue. Hobbitschuster (talk) 18:47, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm following the subdivision from German version (+/-). Originally I wanted to put everything in 1 article, but it turns out that would easily jump over the 9-items per article limit, even if I skipped half items from original articles. So I decided to first write it down, we can sub-split or merge later ... I think it will make sense to leave it split in the end, though... Come back tomorrow :) Andree.sk (talk) 19:08, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think the 7 2 rule doesn't apply to the region level immediatelly above the cities, in order to allow each city, park etc. to be listed at least somewhere. ϒpsilon (talk) 19:59, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well de-WV has a tendency to split for the sake of splitting (I think Berlin comes close to over 100 "districts" over there) and to list really, really WV:Boring places as "attractions" (I think several articles over there have the "99 rollover" problem with listing "attractions" that really aren't worth the bytes). I am as I said ignorant whether that is the case here, but I'd find it unfortunate to copy the errors of that language edition in that regard. That said, it may be that this all makes sense and Gran Canaria is just so chock full of attractions that not subdividing and not listing those villages would be folly. But let me at this point express a certain expectant skepticism. Hobbitschuster (talk) 20:20, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Of course region articles could potentially be good if there are a lot of small villages and rural attractions; we could handle the regions as cities like has been done e.g. in our Suriname regions. ϒpsilon (talk) 20:27, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I tried to avoid useless stuff, but maybe it's better to leave this up to the reader? I reckon when you are grounded on the island for 2 weeks, you will be thankful for any distraction from neverending sunbathing :) I would be...
In any case, for now I'm done - rearrange as you please. I used the region template, but perhaps we can switch to small city as usual... Except for Eastern part, Las Palmas has quite a few attractions which probably deserve the separate article (someone else could bring in stuff from the german article .-) ). That doesn't play well with the WV hierarchy? :-/ Andree.sk (talk) 21:13, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
There are only 2 city articles in this region! Should not split into more regions into at least 20 articles on Gran Canaria. Then can discuss how to split the region. Should work bottom up not top down. --Traveler100 (talk) 22:06, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure I understand what you're saying... Hobbitschuster (talk) 01:24, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think organisation like in Suriname will make much more sense for this. Except for Las Palmas. Andree.sk (talk) 06:50, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
OK now I get it. The level below Gran Canaria will cover areas of the island but from Wikivoyage definition of types will be city articles. Yes that might work. --Traveler100 (talk) 07:28, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sorry but I disagree with the moving of the only two city articles for this island into sub-regions. This is the wrong way round. First write lots of city articles then when too many create sub-regions. --Traveler100 (talk) 18:44, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
