Stable African Countries

[edit]

Can we delete that "fun fact" about Gabon? "Since independence, Gabon has been one of the more stable African countries." It's not interesting, and screams of Western ignorance and stereotyping. It doesn't even suggest that it IS stable, just "one of the more stable countries". ChubbyWimbus (talk) 03:39, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I think you're right, but what's at issue is Wikivoyage:Discover, which would have to be edited. Ypsi, do you have any objection to deleting this? Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:42, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
If you feel it must not be there, delete it. However the fact will still be replaced by another one tomorrow, having been there two days already.
Concerning the situation in Africa, there are few countries where there would not have been a conflict or military coup in the last 10-20 years. There are actually quite a couple of conflicts going on right now, but as they are not in the news every day it may come as a surprise. ϒpsilon (talk) 10:28, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
It sounds like you think it should not be deleted, and give a reason why not. I note the absence of a consensus to delete and will therefore take no action. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:40, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
And if anyone wants to delete it, please remove or correct the sentence in the Gabon article too because that's where it's from. ϒpsilon (talk) 11:00, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Stability can be a relative term. Is Morocco really unstable? Perhaps. I am no expert on the country, and it is marked as having current conflict. I don't know if that is enough to say it's unstable. Most of the green countries, though are unsurprising. More countries are not colored, though. If the fact is that Gabon has not had any conflict since independence, it's an interesting factoid that would be noteworthy on Gabon's page for sure. It just looks different as an independent fact (and as one that pits Gabon against every other country on the continent), and "One of the more" suggests there are others that are equally or possibly even more stable (in which case it's not such a special thing) or that Gabon is actually less unstable but still unstable like everywhere on the continent, which doesn't seem true and wouldn't be very noteworthy if it were. I guess if the fact is going to disappear in a few hours, the discussion is moot though. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 14:04, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Could someone with the appropriate permissions replace the language links at the bottom (the <center> tag and its contents) with {{Wikivoyagelang}}? Thanks, Jc86035 (talk) 15:19, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yes Done. -- Ryan (talk) 15:31, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Esino Lario?

[edit]

As many of you know, Wikimania this year will be held in this place in Italy. I'm not familiar with the ranking here, but maybe there's a chance that usable article could be linked somewhere on the home page until Wikimania is over? (I noticed it's DotM at it.voy, so I thought I'd ask!) Best, --Elitre (talk) 13:50, 10 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Please have a look at the criteria at dotm on this site. There is no chance of a Usable article being featured; articles must be at least at Guide level for a feature. Instead, I would solicit your help in improving the Esino Lario article and dealing with the unfortunate side articles that are discussed at Talk:Esino Lario#Unhelpful though well-intentioned articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:06, 19 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
As Wikimania 2016 starts later this week, there is not enough time to improve the article so that it could be featured during the event (22-28 June 2016), and the schedule for DOTM etc is usually worked out a few months in advance. However I wonder if it would be possible to "stretch" the definition of Discover and so have "Esino Lario is the venue for this year's Wikimania". Would be better if some trivia about the event could be added to the entry. AlasdairW (talk) 23:02, 19 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yup. I only said "linked somewhere on the home page". I understand if that's not feasible. Best, --Elitre (talk) 09:54, 21 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Map at the top

Issue with the map

The map at the top has shifted to the right and is no longer completely on my screen. Attached a screen shot.

I've seen it too, but thought it was just my screen settings, because dragging out the browser window horizontally would resolve the problem (for me at least). ϒpsilon (talk) 05:12, 30 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
The same thing happens on my screen. I think someone with enough technical knowledge could probably fix it by editing Template:Mapbanner. —Granger (talk · contribs) 17:17, 4 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
