Talk:Quezon City
Change title?
[edit]There are other uses of the name "Quezon" and I have just created a disambiguation page at Quezon to deal with those. Prior to that, the "Quezon" page had what is now at Quezon (province); that seemed obviously wrong to me.
We do have a policy, though, that when one use is extremely common, it gets the unadorned name, e.g. London or Canton, & that page has a pointer to e.g. London (disambiguation) for the other uses. Is Quezon one of those? Should we move the current Quezon page to Quezon (disambiguation) and move this page to Quezon? Pashley (talk) 22:37, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
@Pashley: Though this thread is already a year old, I don't agree with moving Quezon City to Quezon, and I don't think Quezon fits your example. Quezon is most commonly used to refer to the province, and Quezon City's name is already fine (locals and foreigner do refer it always with that "City" adornment). Just keep it as it is, and someone may just look up Quezon (disambiguation) if finding other places named Quezon other than the province or the city. Districts
[edit]Being another large city, Quezon City should also be divided into districts whenever possible. I have plans to divide Quezon City into these districts:
- Muñoz (Bago Bantay)
- Bagumbayan
- Balintawak
- Commonwealth
- Cubao
- Diliman
- Fairview
- Galas
- La Loma
- Loyola Heights
- New Manila
- Novaliches
- The Projects (Project 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
- Roxas District
- Santa Mesa Heights
- Santol
- San Francisco del Monte
- Ugong Norte
Any opinions?--TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 01:49, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Looks too complex to me, though I do not know the area so cannot be sure. These distinctions may be important for administrators or for Quezon residents, but do they matter much to visitors?
- Our usual rule is to aim at around 7 districts at any level, maximum 9. Pashley (talk) 09:12, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
It took me long to consider this, but my new proposal can divide the city into the minimum or maximum number of travel districts, but boundaries can be a bit unclear. The city is pretty too large to be covered in one page (the article is not much developed unlike the one of nearby Manila), but it can take a while to draw the approximate boundaries.
- Balintawak–Muñoz
- Commonwealth
- Cubao
- Diliman
- Fairview–Lagro
- Novaliches
- Triangle Area
- West

- Any opinions, @Sky Harbor: and @Pashley:?TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 17:22, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
No reply, so I'll begin districtification from Friday afternoon. It can take long though. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 19:06, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
- I just got the notice now. I think this is okay, but I'm confused. What areas are encompassed by Commonwealth and what areas are encompassed by Diliman, given that they overlap? (In this case, it might be good to have a separate area for the Ateneo and UP campuses, which we can call something else entirely.) --Sky Harbor (talk) 19:33, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Sky Harbor: I have created a map from scratch, however, I made major changes, merging Novaliches and Fairview-Lagro into Fairview-Novaliches, splitting West Quezon City into Southwest Quezon City (Araneta Avenue and New Manila) and West and Northwest Quezon City (Balintawak-Muñoz, Project 8, Santa Mesa Heights, San Jose del Monte), merging Commonwealth, Diliman and Katipunan Avenue into East Quezon City, and new districts like Triangle and Scout Areas and Southeast (Eastwood-Libis). --TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 20:11, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- It's a good thing you have a former QC resident involved in this process. ;)
- I am inclined to split East QC into two districts, given the number of sights in this area. One would be the Ateneo and UP campuses, as I mentioned earlier (this would be the entire UP campus, the Maginhawa corridor and associated streets, and Katipunan from Tandang Sora until Bonny Serrano, with the western boundary being Anonas), and the remainder being Commonwealth as that would include the INC Central Temple area, the Batasan, Congressional Avenue (known for its food, obviously) and the La Mesa Ecopark. I would check though how other cities handle large university campuses, and we can proceed accordingly.
- For West and NW QC, I've always associated New Manila, Santa Mesa Heights and SFDM as being part of the same area, with its own sights (Santo Domingo Church, Retiro, Ma Mon Luk, Banaue New Chinatown, the funeral parlor corridor along Araneta, etc.) and being completely separate from Balintawak and Project 8. If anything, a split should be along those lines. All other parts of the map are fine, and we can subdivide accordingly: for example, SE QC would be sub-divided into Libis (Bagumbayan and surrounding barangays, including Eastwood City and Greenmeadows), White Plains and Saint Ignatius, and Camps Aguinaldo and Crame. --Sky Harbor (talk) 17:46, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
- It's agreeable to me. The East district is newly created, and I can agree with a division and other changes (including merging the Fairview-Lagro area and creating a Commonwealth district page, and moving the original East page into Diliman and Katipunan, then deleting the redirect). I made several changes to the map, such as including Bago Bantay, Muñoz, Nayong Kanluran, and Santa Cruz (Pantranco, location of Fisher Mall) into the Triangle and Scout Areas. I also agree with placing New Manila and Galas-Santol into West and making a northwest region including Novaliches proper, and it may take me a while to redefine the districts and create new pages (I am in a hurry).--TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 03:53, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
Quezon City districts
[edit]- Swept in from the pub
Just have a look - one of them even redlinks and most are outlines. There is a "district discussion" tag on the page, but the last contribution on the talk page is from 2018... Hobbitschuster (talk) 10:58, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- I agree they could use work, but I see only one red link & one linked article that looks horribly weak. I cannot help much since I don't know the area.
- User:TagaSanPedroAko; you've edited some of these. Any comment? Pashley (talk) 12:05, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- I'm off editing for the last weeks, but I can work things out. For the northwest area (a largely working-class area with lots of slums and factories), I'm thinking about a merge with another adjacent district, especially the Fairview and Commonwealth area, but I can keep that if there are enough listings (new or existing) that can go there.-TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 16:07, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- I think we should then conclude this discussion by accepting TagaSanPedroAko's suggestion to merge Northwest with Fairview and Commonwealth as there are still no listings for Northwest a year later. Ground Zero (talk) 00:34, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- This article is still on a list of articles with active district discussions. Is this discussion concluded? Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:11, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

If there is no objection, I will merge northwest and "Fairview and Commonwealth" into Quezon City/Northern Quezon City after one week. Ground Zero (talk) 10:51, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Done. I will see if I can find someone to update the static map. Ground Zero (talk) 00:20, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
