What does this mean?
[edit]"The charms of the bay of Tadoussac classifies it, in 1998, among the select club of the most beautiful bays in the world and it becomes the first official member in North America."
There is some kind of world ranking of bays that took the Bay of Tadoussac on as a member in 1998? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:02, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- Changing "charms" to "beauties" in the quoted sentence doesn't improve its grammar or comprehensibility. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:52, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
Résidences de tourisme
[edit]Would those translate as "guest houses" or "vacation rentals"? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:21, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- I would read that as "tourist houses". However, I don't know how that would read in Canadian English. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:26, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- There is no English-language category of "tourism residences" to my knowledge, which is why I asked the question. Do you have a category of "tourist houses" in Australia? Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:46, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- It's sometimes used, but it's the same thing as "guest houses" so I'd just use "guest houses" in this case. But I have to ask – how did a French sentence end up in the English Wikivoyage? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:49, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- On l'a copié, tout simplement! Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:51, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- Je soupçonne qu'il y a une traduction automatique par Google Translate (Google Traduction). Il explique les orthographes américaines.... SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:59, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

Highway markers in text
[edit]- Swept in from the pub
Do we have a policy on using highway marker signs in text, like this? I know some editors like this style, but for me, it is harder to read. Ground Zero (talk) 14:24, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, it is harder to read, and the numbers are borderline unreadable. The colour coding must be very important for grasping something to justify it – I don't see the advantage when used like this. –LPfi (talk) 20:38, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- How does that work for a person using a screen reader? WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:33, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- As someone who does not use a screen reader, looking at File:Qc138.svg (e.g.), the file is made up of arbitrary lines in SVG, not text, so a screen reader would probably not be able to recognize it as "138". We could have green blocks with <div>s and white text on them if we want to emulate the style and make it more accessible. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 21:39, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

- For some systems like the French or the European Highway systems, using a template which can support screen readers can help. However, for this case, I think it's much better to say "Quebec Route xxx". SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 22:59, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
