Admin

You know, you’ve done some great work reverting vandalism today. We could nominate you for admin, and while I can’t guarantee a nomination, you definitely deserve it if you want it. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:40, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SelfieCity: thanks for the offer, but I got adminship on simple wiki just 3 days ago, and I'd like to avoid the appearance of hat collecting --DannyS712 (talk) 02:46, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, whatever you think works with me. But feel free to ask if you change your mind. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:48, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks a lot for helping with vandalism cleanup here again.

Best,

No problem - happy to help DannyS712 (talk) 07:27, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About the email

Sorry for not replying, I have my hands full at work as of this moment. I'm happy to have just nominated you for adminship. And many thanks for all the help with cleaning up our travel guide. Ibaman (talk) 22:19, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, thanks for following up and for your support! DannyS712 (talk) 22:26, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rocky vandal

As you've been into combating vandalism as of lately, you may want to learn about the modus operandi of one annoying long-term abuser (also editing cross-wiki) that seems to be back now. What you've reverted Here and here seems to be the work of them.

See Wikivoyage:Vandalism_in_progress/Archive#The_Rocky_vandal_is_back and here for this vandal's hallmarks.

He may also be the one adding vandalistic content about chess and other sports. --Ypsilon (talk) 15:14, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm familiar with them, both from here and other wikis, but thanks for the info DannyS712 (talk) 15:15, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

Hi, DannyS712. Thanks again for being so helpful and for volunteering to be an admin. The nomination passed, and you now have some more buttons. Since you've done admin work on other wikis, all the features will probably be familiar to you, but if you have any questions, never hesitate to ask. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:33, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much DannyS712 (talk) 09:04, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Welcome aboard! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:48, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Simple English Wikipedia

Hi there. I don't usually edit there, but there's a trolly there insisting Eddie Van Halen's death is a hoax, I reverted, he's doing edit war, it's just a heads-up. I'm glad you joined our Admin team. Welcome aboard, yes. Ibaman (talk) 21:58, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Already blocked that guy, but thanks for the notice DannyS712 (talk) 21:58, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
About this same issue, thanks for your actions today. What a stubborn trolly, indeed. Ibaman (talk) 21:58, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Beijing 2008

Weird. I don't know what happened there. I was trying to delete the stuff that had been added. Thanks for cleaning that up. Ground Zero (talk) 01:14, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No problem DannyS712 (talk) 01:16, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DannyS712bot

On the graffiti wall, it says it is cleared automatically on the hour, however your bot doesn't clear it every hour. Do you know how often your bot checks the graffiti wall? 82.3.185.12 14:07, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure, but I think its every hour, though only if this is content to clear --DannyS712 (talk) 16:32, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It used to do that, up until the 4th of May, but then it changed and stopped doing it exactly on the hour and sometimes leaves gaps longer than an hour. 82.3.185.12 16:57, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then something is wrong with the bot... I'll try to investigate --DannyS712 (talk) 17:09, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. 82.3.185.12 17:23, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that the bot started doing this almost exactly six months after its first edit. Could it be something to do with that? 82.3.185.12 17:55, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t see an issue with the period being more than an hour as long as it’s prompt. An hour for the revert is too short IMO. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:08, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could you protect my slang archive to template editors and admins only?

Hi Danny, just wanted to ask if you can protect my slang archive page to temp editors and admins only? Well, it just got vandalised twice, and it was a target for Ljupco a month back. Also, I see no reason why someone that's not myself or an admin would need to edit the page. Thanks, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:22, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SHB2000 Yes Done DannyS712 (talk) 09:04, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
