Add topicLagos
[edit]Thanks for starting a new article about Lekki! I think from maps this is a district of Lagos. Is this correct and is it seen as part of the city? I have made it a city district article but if you think it should be considered its own city, let me know. Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 18:28, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
Phone numbers
[edit]Hey Lordgentual, thanks for all the work you've put into Lagos/Lekki. One thing though, since Wikivoyage is an international travel guide, we usually put in the country code before. So ideally we'd use +234 XXX XXX XXXX and not 0XXX XXX XXX. Thanks! --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 20:33, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
What to post instead of templated listings in region articles
[edit]Hi, Lordgentual, and thank you very much for adding so much information about Nigeria to this site!
I'd like to request for you to have a look at the Wikivoyage:Region article template page. Specifically, I'd like to focus on this:
Almost always, individual listings (including detailed contact info for restaurants and hotels) do *not* belong in a region or sub-region page. The region-level description is a brief overview only; it will mention that Walt Disney World is near Orlando but not list full contact info. Don't name every hotel and eatery in the area. General descriptions like "many hotels in Orlando accommodate visitors to the Disney park", "multiple restaurants offer patios facing the river" or "various marinas in Ontario and New York rent boats to Thousand Islands visitors" are fine but leave it at that and save the lists of individual hotels, cafés and marinas for the city or local-level articles.
Individual listings should be placed at the lowest available level of local page (a district of a huge city or the city page for a small town).
So what does belong in the "See", "Do", "Buy", "Eat", "Drink" and "Sleep" sections of region articles?
See
[edit]This is for an overview of the types of attractions as well as the principal attractions in the region. Don't give full details about each attraction (use prose, not a listing template); you should have that in the article for the city where the attraction is.
Eat
[edit]This is a great place to describe the regional cuisine. Are there any specialties that travellers should try while they're in this region? Try to mention lots of types of food, and keep people on special diets – like vegetarians – in mind.
See similar remarks about other sections at the link I gave you above. And one thing it doesn't mention is that when you add these kinds of summaries, it's good to include links to the relevant sections of city articles where the highlights are covered in more specifics.
Here is an example of one star-rated region article and one star-rated country article (with a similar article template: see Wikivoyage:Country article template) that you can use in some measure as examples, and for inspiration:
Here are some star-rated huge city articles (huge cities being subdivided into district articles and therefore somewhat similar in structure to region articles - see Wikivoyage:Huge city article template):
Chicago, Copenhagen, San Francisco, Washington, D.C.
Here are some guide-level region articles, not quite stars but still guides that conform well to the article template I linked above and to the Wikivoyage:Manual of style:
Alberta, Colorado, East Bali, Greater Jakarta, Manitoba, Metro Cebu, New Brunswick, New South Wales, Newfoundland and Labrador, North Bali, North Central New Mexico, Northern Territory, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Saskatchewan, South Bali, South Limburg, Southeastern Islands, Svalbard.
Here are some guide-level country articles:
Australia, Canada, Germany, Netherlands.
While I have your attention: One matter of style on this site is that section headers use sentence-style capitalization. What that means is that unless a word other than the first word of a subheading would normally be capitalized, it is written in lowercase. So, for example, we use "Get in," "Get around," "By car," "By train" and so on.
Thanks very much again, and all the best,

- Thanks @Ikan Kekek. I'm new to wikivoyage and I would definitely adhere to your instructions. I really appreciate your comments. Please feel free to call my attention on any other wrong edits I might have made... Thanks

- Sure thing. All of us long-timers know that there's a learning curve on this site; we experienced it ourselves after we started editing here. What's most important is to keep adding content. I'm really happy to see all the new content about Nigeria! We can always edit it for style later. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:30, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
Time and date formatting
[edit]Thank you for your excellent work on Nigeria articles. Wikivoyage uses standard time and date formats to make it easier for travellers to find information. Here are some key points from that policy (WV:TDF):
- For Nigeria articles, use the 12-hour clock format instead of tyec24-hour clock, e.g., 9:30AM–5PM. We use upper case "AM" and "PM", and noon and midnight, not 12PM and 12AM.
- For days of the week, we abbreviate to the minimum number of letters: M Tu W Th F Sa Su.
- When combining days with time, put the days first: M–F 10AM–2PM, not 10AM–2PM M–F.
